One of my favorite ways to relax is to light a candle. I own at least a hundred of them. Really, I do. The other day I pulled out a few tea light candles and their glass holders, and noticed that they were a bit boring. Great smelling and relaxing, but on the boring side.
I had just read through the April issue of ALL YOU Magazine, and was reminded of an Easter craft that I saw. In the magazine there was a tutorial where they cut out a pretty floral design from paper and used Mod Podge adhere them to Easter eggs. Although Easter is now over, I loved this technique, and knew it would work really well on my glass tea light holders. So I got to work and came up with these decorative tea light holders that I love!
Here’s what you’ll need to make your own:
- Glass candle holders (I used tea light holders, but any size will work)
- Decorative tissue paper
- Mod Podge
- Foam brush
First, I measured how tall I needed the tissue paper to be. I cut a piece of tissue paper out that was the same height as the candle holder, and was long enough so that the ends slightly overlapped when it was wrapped around the glass.
Next, I applied a thin coat of Mod Podge with a foam brush to half of the candle holder. I let the Mod Podge sit on the glass for a minute or two so that it would dry slightly, and make the tissue paper less likely to rip. Then I carefully placed the middle of the tissue paper onto the glass, and pressed down lightly to smooth out any wrinkles in the paper.
Then I added another thin coat of Mod Podge to the rest of the glass, and repeated what I had just done. I used a little extra Mod Podge to seal the ends together to make sure it was on nice and tight. Easy, right? And aren’t they cute? It only took a few minutes to turn these glass candles holders into a stylish home accessory that can add a nice pop of color to the room!
