If you can belt out the words to the song “Let it Go” at the top of your voice, have kids (or even know kids), or like fun and creative activites that keep those kids busy for hours, then today’s post is definitely for you! I am SO excited to share with you an amazing DIY snow tutorial that will teach you how to make your own cold snow with just two simple ingredients you probably already have!
Living in Southern California, my family and I very rarely get to experience snow. It’s pretty epic when we do get to make snowballs and go play in the snow together as a family. Even though it’s been in the 80’s all week, we still were able to play in the snow! I made a homemade batch of snow out of two ordinary household items- baking soda and shaving cream. Seriously!!
The amazing thing about this homemade snow is that it feels almost just like real snow! It is cold naturally (without even having to put it in the freezer) and smells amazing. Here’s how I made up a batch of fake snow for my kids to play with.
- 2 lb. box of baking soda
- 1 can shaving cream
- Dish or container (to mix it all up in)
Pour all of the 2 lb. box of baking soda into a plastic container with a lid. Add some shaving cream, and knead it into the baking soda. Add more shaving cream, mix, and repeat, until the mixture is the consistency of snow. It will become light and powdery, and when fully mixed will leave very little residue on your hands.
It took me about 10-15 minutes to mix it all in with my hands, partly because the kids were really excited to “help” me mix. 😉
I used one full can of shaving cream, plus a small amount of another can, but this will depend on the size of the can that you use. Our shaving cream scent was called “Arctic Snow,” which was perfect for this project! I was going to add peppermint oil, but our DIY snow didn’t need it, since it already smelled amazingly brisk and cool due the shaving cream scent.
It was a nice surprise that our fake snow felt cold to the touch. I’m not sure why the mixture is cold, but it definitely makes it more realistic, and even more magical!
To add to the magic, I just couldn’t resist adding Anna, Elsa, Olaf, Christoff, and Sven to our homemade snow. The kids were all playing peacefully together with the snow for hours, which was really nice for me!
They took turn playing the different Frozen characters, and then made their own little snowmen complete with stick arms and tiny pebble eyes.
After their hours of “snow” play, my kids had worked up an appetite. Time for a #SouperPower moment from mom! I surprised them with the perfect meal- Campbell’s® Condensed Chicken Noodle Soup with a new Frozen label featuring Anna and Elsa! This was an awesome surprise for a few different reasons, the first being that my kids are huge Campbell’s® Condensed Soup fans. They hadn’t seen the new label yet, and truly couldn’t believe their favorite Frozen characters were on a can of soup.
My kids are still watching the movie Frozen a ton (and I can sing you all of the songs to prove it), so if it has the Frozen characters on the label, you can bet that my kids will love it!
The soup features pasta noodles in different princess shapes, and is priced at $1.79 per 10.5 oz. can. My boys had NO problem whatsoever eating the soup, too. In fact, my older son kept begging me to make “just one more can” of soup every day until the sad moment he realized that we had eaten all of the cans. Time to go to the store! Campbell’s® Condensed Soup featuring the new Frozen label is available now in the soup aisle of grocery retailers and wholesale clubs nationwide.
We had so much fun playing in the “snow” and getting our #SouperPower on afterwards with Campbell’s® Chicken Noodle Soup with the new Frozen label! You have got to give this DIY Snow a try, and then surprise your kids with the new soup. You’ll be your kids’ ‘Soup’-er hero if you do!
