If you’ve ever moved, you know how much work it can be. Today I’ve got some moving tips and tricks to share with you to make your move easier and to save you time and money!
Moving Tips and Tricks to Save Your Sanity
Tip #1. Save money on boxes by asking friends who have recently moved if you can have their moving boxes.
My husband and I were getting ready to move last year and had a friend who had just moved give use TONS of really nice boxes that he had bought. They were in perfect condition and saved us tons of money!
Tip #2. Get extra boxes when shopping.
Many times when we go to a warehouse store, my husband will choose an extra box or two.
Though these boxes usually don’t have tops, they are great for packing up those awkward shaped items, and many times they can still be stacked.
Tip #3. Use dish towels, bath towels, etc. for protecting the breakables instead of packing peanuts and styrofoam.
Not only will this save your fragile items from breaking, but it will also save on space and is much better for the environment. A triple win!
Tip #4. Hold a yard sale.
Get some extra cash for the move by selling old clothing, furniture, toys, and more at a garage sale. I’ve done two garage sales and it’s amazing to me how much money I end up getting for things that I no longer need and don’t even miss!
Now you’ll have less things to move, and will create a new life in your new home with less clutter and extra things that you really don’t need.
Anything left over from the yard sale can be taken straight to the thrift store or charity and donated to help others.
Tip #5. Rent it.
Depending on your circumstances, it can be more convenient and economical to rent furniture than to furnish a whole home or move everything across the country if you move frequently.
With CORT Furniture Rental you get furniture on demand- it’s there when you need it, and gone when you don’t. How convenient is that? Less hassle and headaches are always a good thing!
CORT is the national industry leader in the furniture rental space, so you know you can trust them and their services. They’ve got different options available, so you can pick the package that’s just right for you.
Tip #6. Lighten the load.
Although it’s very tempting to fill those boxes to the brim with books and other heavy objects to make the most of the space, don’t do it!
Not only do you risk damaging your things, but those boxes will be really heavy, and can cause back strain or injury or even cause the box to break.
Tip #7. Fill in empty spaces with light things.
That empty bowl you’re packing up? Fill it with some silverware, towels, or anything else that will fit to save on space.
Take every opportunity you can to fill up bigger empty items with smaller, light items.
Tip #8. Write on.
Clearly label those boxes with what’s inside, and what room they belong in. This will make your life SO much easier when unloading all those boxes at your new place.
While moving can be a lot of work, these moving tips can certainly help you save time and money on your next move.
Don’t forget that you can also rent furniture if you will be moving frequently to take away a lot of the hassle and headache!
