Summers are one of my favorite times of the year to entertain. Today I’m partnering with Duraflame to share with you some of my top summer outdoor entertaining tips to make your next summer soiree a success!
You don’t have to spend a ton of money on a beautiful get together. With some creativity and a few simple ideas, you can entertain in style this summer.
Summer Outdoor Entertaining Tips
Prep the Party
Get as much work done before your get together as you can. Plan appetizers, a meal, and/or desserts that can be made beforehand or require very little prep work right before the party.
Do as much cutting, chopping, and cooking as possible before hand so the hard work is over by the time quests arrive. This also helps you to relax and not be as stressed so that you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the party with your guests.
You don’t have to buy expensive flowers to add a bit of nature to your table. Go out in your yard with some scissors and clip some pretty green leaves or fresh flowers for your table. You might be surprised at what you find!
If you don’t have a yard or live in an apartment, don’t worry. You can turn those inexpensive grocery store bouquets into beautiful arrangements that will add some color and fun to the table.
For tricks and tips from a professional florist on how to keep your flowers lasting longer and arrange them like a pro, see this post on how to turn grocery store flowers from blah to beautiful!
Keep decorations simple and easy. Some globe lights, paper lanterns, and/or a few candles and flowers are all you need to set the stage for a great get-together.
Keeping it simple not only makes it easier for you, but sometimes less really is more, especially when you’re outside and already have the fresh air and nature to enjoy.
Keep it Cool
Summer is hot, and even in the evenings, depending on where you live, those temperatures might not cool down a whole lot. Keep guests cool with cold drinks and lots of ice.
This cranberry and raspberry lemonade mocktail is a great way to cool down and is perfect for summer outdoor entertaining!
Cranberry Raspberry Lemonade Mocktail
(Non-alcoholic. Recipe serves 4)
- 2 cups cranberry raspberry juice
- 2 cups lemonade
- 2 cups club soda
- lemon rounds and fresh raspberries, for garnish
Combine the cranberry raspberry juice, the lemonade, and the club soda in a pitcher.
Fill glasses with ice, then add the drink to each cup. Garnish with lemon slices.
Light My Fire
Relaxing at the end of the evening to the sight, sound, and smell of a crackling fire is a great way to unwind. A fire sets the perfect stage for guests to relax and the conversation to flow.
To light a fire quickly and easily without a mess and without a hassle, I like to use Duraflame Stax.
The cool things about these is that they make that comforting crackling fire sound we all love! Cool, right?
Plus, they’re easy and quick to light, and there’s not heavy smoke that makes it hard to breathe when the wind blows your way, AND your guests won’t smell like smoke after they leave. It’s a win win!
To light, simple make an X with two logs with the arrows on the paper facing down, then light at the arrows on the bottom log. Soon you’ll have a lovely crackling fire that’s perfect for relaxing on a summer night.
