This past weekend my husband and I put together a fun football viewing party and invited family over to watch our favorite college football team play. We had such a great time, and I wanted to share it all with you today! I’ve also got the most amazing recipe for buffalo chicken dip that you’ll want to try.
To get ready for the party I went to Walmart and stocked up on food, decorations, and supplies. They’ve got everything for your football party needs!
Let’s be honest, while football food is delicious, it isn’t the healthiest. Usually it’s greasy, fatty, and spicy, so I made sure to pick up some Nexium® 24HR Capsules and Nexium® 24HR Tablets, a treatment for those with frequent heartburn. It helps you to get ready for tailgreatness. Get all-day, all-night protection from frequent heartburn with Nexium® 24HR *Use as directed. May take 1-4 days for full effect. Just one pill a day!
Football Viewing Party Decorations
To set up for the big game, I bought some black and white striped fabric that reminded me of referee shirts and used tacks to attach it to the wall. It’s such an easy way to get a colorful background for your party, and makes such a big difference in the way the party looks.
Above the table I hung some bright green and black and white tissue paper poms. They remind me of cheerleader pom poms, and matched my party colors perfectly!
On the food table I used a bright green tablecloth, then stacked wood crates so the openings were in front and I could place food inside each crate. I love the height and unexpectedness of using the wood crates to hold the food. On top of each of the upper crates I placed a football statue to go with the theme.
I also hung a black and white flag garland up on the top crates that says “GO TEAM.” You can download my free printable football banner flags for your next party too!
Just print, then either tape or punch holes for ribbon or thread (I used a clear thread and tape) onto the back of each flag. Couldn’t be easier!
Football Viewing Party Food
You just can’t throw a football party without lots of food. I’m pretty sure there’s a rule about that somewhere. I wanted guests to feel full and have plenty of options during the game, so I made a LOT of food.
I used my three-tiered galvanized stand and placed chocolate “kickoff cupcakes” on the top that I bought from the Walmart bakery. While I love to bake, sometimes it’s nice to buy premade so your party comes together quicker and without you being in the kitchen for hours and hours.
I added some printable cupcake toppers that I made to the tops of the cupcpakes that matched the banner I made.
I stacked hamburgers and cheeseburgers fresh off the grill on the second tier of the stand.
I filled light green cups with a referee striped cooking liner I found at Walmart, then filled each cup with french fries. Because you just can’t have burgers without french fries, right?
Inside the crates were lots of other tasty food for the football viewing party.
Giant soft pretzels, chocolate chip cookies, chipotle chicken flautas, honey hot wings, sausage, and corn dogs were all yummy choices for guests to choose from.
Individual football cups were filled with a pub snack mix and pistachios for guests to grab and snack on during the game. I’m so glad we were prepared for eating all this food before hand, thanks to Nexium® 24HR. No heartburn for us!
I filled a large snack tray with carrots, celery, sugar snap peas, olives, ranch dressing, and an amazing homemade buffalo chicken dip. If you’ve never tried buffalo chicken dip, you NEED to make this!
This buffalo chicken dip combines all the flavors of buffalo chicken that you love. It is SO good, everyone raved about it at our football viewing party! It only takes about 5 minutes to prep and really is the perfect snack for a football party.
Follow the easy steps below to make your own!
Buffalo Chicken Dip Recipe
- 8 oz. brick cream cheese
- 1/2 cup ranch dressing
- 1/2 cup buffalo sauce (use less if your sauce is hot, I used the mild version)
- 12.5 oz can chicken, rinsed and drained
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
STEP 1. Combine the cream cheese, ranch dressing, buffalo sauce, cheese, and chicken in a mixing bowl. Mix until combined.
STEP 2. This dip can be eaten hot or cold. If serving cold, then place in the refrigerator until it’s time to eat.
If serving hot, then place the dip in an oven-safe container and heat in a 350 degree oven for about 15-20 minutes. Serve warm.
This dip honestly takes about 5 minutes to prepare, and tastes absolutely amazing!! It truly tastes just like buffalo chicken, only in dip form. Football food at its’ finest!
I served my buffalo chicken dip with some ranch dressing, as well as carrots, celery, sugar snap peas, olives, and a variety of crackers for dipping.
Thanks for letting me share our football viewing party with you! I’ve hope I’ve given you a few tips and ideas for planning your own get together this football season.
It’s become a tradition for us to throw football parties each year to watch our favorite college football team, and it’s a time that I look forward to each fall. It just doesn’t get much better than family, friends, food, and football!
