Make a list and check it twice with these activities that are great to do with the kids!
#1 Take the Kids Shopping for other Family Members
My kids save up money for a couple of months so they can buy their siblings and us parents Christmas gifts. I like to take each child out individually to go shopping with their hard-earned money so that their siblings don’t see the gifts that they are buying.
Plus, it’s a great way to spend one on one time with each child and make them feel special. I like to get them a special treat, too, just for fun. These are the moments that they will remember when they are older, so it’s important for me to do this for each of my kids!
#2 Give Service
Find a way to give back to others this season with your family. Whether it’s as simple as doing a few random acts of kindness (you can print out these free RAOK printables to help with that), taking hot chocolate to the homeless (one of my favorites that my mom and I did last year), or leaving an anonymous gift card or gift basket outside a family’s door that you know could use some help, take the time to help others.
Not only are you helping those that can use it, but it really does make you feel good inside to help others, and it’s a GREAT way to teach your kids to think less of themselves and more about others.
#3 Nature Walk
Get a breath of fresh air and go take a walk! Take the time to notice all of the details- any animals or signs of animals, evidence of the changing season, the colors of the fallen leaves, any interesting sounds, wildflowers, etc.
You can also keep the kids busy on your walk by having them collect fallen acorns, pinecones, sticks, etc., then use them for a craft or for home decor. The pinecones are perfect for decorating your home, the acorns are great for this metallic acorn home decor craft, and tiny sticks are perfect for making this cute easy clay snowman decoration.
#4 Go See Santa
Yes, it may be commercialized and overpriced, but if your kids are believers, you have to see old St. Nick at least once during the holiday season. Your kiddos will only be their current age once during the Christmas season, and those classic photos with Santa (yes, even the ones of your kid screaming his head off) will be favorites one day. Just bite the bullet and go do it.
#5 Go Play!
With all the hustle and bustle of the season, it’s easy to get stressed. Go pack up the car with the bikes and scooters, and go play with your kids. An afternoon out running and playing with the kids will do you wonders, and is a great way to relieve your stress. You’re also making memories and forming bonds with your kiddos, which is always a good thing.
Do all of these fun activities this season, and do it in style!
