This summer I’ve made it a point to go on lots of outings with my kids. We live in one of the most beautiful places in the country, San Diego (yes, I may be a bit biased). There are so many fun places to explore and exciting things to see!
Earlier this week we all went to Balboa Park. It’s a great place that’s filled with beautiful museums, gardens, gorgeous architecture, the San Diego Zoo, performing arts venues, and a vintage carousel that’s over 100 years old.
First we headed to the large fountain, one of my favorite spots! I was pleasantly surprised that it was still turned on due to the drought restrictions we have here in So Cal.
There were kids swimming and splashing in the fountain, and I’m not going to lie, it was so hot out that we were tempted to join them in our clothes!
We recently did some of our back to school shopping, so my kids were excited to wear their new shoes from Famous Footwear. My daughter chose a pair of adorable Madden Girl Wedge Boots and my son chose the Vans Asher Slip Ons.
The Natural History Museum is one our favorite places because of all the cool dinosaur exhibits. We took a rest on the stairs there before heading on to the Botanical Garden and pond to stop and look at the koi fish.
It’s so peaceful and relaxing here because of the pretty lilies and plants, the ducks, and the fish that were all swimming after the ducks. It was actually quite amusing to watch, and we spent some time here just relaxing in the gorgeous space.
With all the walking we had done, the kids were anxious to get on their skateboards and ride for a change.
There are so many beautiful shaded walkways and halls here that are adorned with large columns and statues that I didn’t mind the fact that I was walking and they were riding.
I had a gorgeous view no matter which direction I looked!
We loved all of the brightly colored Bougainvillea that grew on the buildings, as well as their pretty petals that dropped to the ground.
The last stop on our Balboa Park outing was at the carousel. The vintage carousel is over 100 years old, and is one of the few carousels that still has the old-fashioned brass ring game. If you sit on one of the outside animals on the carousel, you can reach and try to get the gold rings, which means that you get a free ride on the carousel again.
Can you guess who won the brass ring game THREE times in a row? Yep, my smiling daughter. It was the perfect end to our fun day out!
I’m already trying to decide where our next day excursion will be. Luckily we still have a little over a month until school starts for us, so we will have plenty of time for more summer fun before it’s back to the reality of school, homework, and studying. For now, it’s all about filling our days with happy memories and new adventures.
Famous Footwear’s #ohsofamous style gallery is a great place to get some fashion inspiration and see what others are wearing. You can also share your own #ohsofamous moments by using the hashtag on your photos too!
