So who’s already decorated for Halloween yet? Hand raised.
Today I’ve got a fun Halloween craft project that is fun to make with your kids, grandkids, or anyone, really, and is a great way to spruce up your space for Halloween. DIY Halloween Candle Holders!
These Halloween candle holders are a great way to recycle those glass jars that you have sitting around. You know, the pasta sauce jar that you just couldn’t part with, or the olive jar that you knew you could do something with, but you just weren’t sure what.
When the sun goes down, turn on these safe Halloween candle holders for some spooky fun. My girls and I made a set of three of these, and I love the way they turned out!
The girls were feeling extra fall-ish because of their adorable new fall riding boots from Famous Footwear, and the fact that we had just bought TONS of pumpkins to decorate the house and porch with.
Famous Footwear has TONS of cute new styles just in time for fall, my favorites being the large selection of boots, which are pretty much the only thing I wear come fall and winter. So cozy!
DIY Halloween Candle Holders
- Glass jars (with a wide enough mouth to fit the LED votives inside)- These can be old food jars (cleaned with the label removed) or mason jars.
- LED Votive Candles- I found mine at Dollar Tree for 2/$1
- Orange spray paint
- Black adhesive vinyl
- Plastic gloves
Step 1. The first step is definitely for an adult. Take the clean glass jar with the label removed, and lightly spray paint inside the jars, one at a time. I found that this worked the best when I had on gloves (unless you like colored fingers), and when I was holding the jar tilted in one hand, and the spray paint in the other hand.
Make sure the inside of the jar is evenly coated in paint, and swirl any extra paint around in the jar to avoid drips and to evenly distribute it.
Step 2. Use your die cut machine (Big Shot, Cricut, Silhouette, etc.) to cut some Halloween shapes from the black vinyl that would fit onto your candles. I used my Sizzix Big Shot. Bats, witches, spiders, ravens, skeletons, black cats, etc. are all great choices!
If you don’t have a die cut machine, simply find some Halloween silhouettes online that you like, print them to your desired size, and use them as templates to trace the shapes onto your vinyl.
Step 3. Peel off the sticky back of the vinyl shapes and place them where you would like them to go on your glass candle holders.
Step 4. Turn on the LED votive candles, place them inside the jars, and watch them go. During the day these won’t be as impressive, but when darkness comes and the witching hour is nigh, these will shine and glow behind your spooky Halloween silhouettes.
My kids especially were mesmerized by these, and they were safe enough (since there are not real candles inside) for me to let them take them in their rooms and turn on at bedtime for an extra fun nightlight! Yeah, these Halloween candle holders pretty much made me the cool mom. 😉
