Last week I invited some of my daughter’s friends over for a fun “Snack Attack” chef party, where the girls created four different fun snacks in the kitchen, and then were able to eat them. We all had SO much fun and I’m excited to share the chef party with you!
To get ready for the party, I made some DIY chef hats and some aprons (made from dish towels and ribbon)- tutorial coming soon for these! Don’t they look adorable?
They really helped the girls get in the spirit of baking and creating, and they wore them both the entire time, which is a feat in and of itself that I was pretty happy about. 😉
I came up with four different snacks that I thought the girls would like to make, and I set up an area on the table with all of the ingredients in bowls and a sign saying what they would be making. This made it easy to flow from one snack to the next, and I wasn’t constantly going to the fridge and cupboards for ingredients. When you have a group of busy kids, this is essential!
I wanted the snacks that I chose to be easy to make, so the kids would have fun and not get frustrated, and for there to be a nice variety. Our party was from 3:00-5:00 (right before dinner), so the girls made the pizza last, so it could count for their dinner if they weren’t hungry at the end of the party. Here are the different stations I came up with:
Snack #1: Goldfish Crackers Pretzel Snacks
These were easy to make, and the girls LOVED them!
We took some square pretzels, placed them in rows on a foil-lined baking sheet, and then added some chocolate caramel candies to the top.
I placed them in a 350 degree oven for a few minutes, and removed them from the oven when the chocolate was soft (but not completely melted). We waited a couple of minutes, then I had each girl, one at a time, carefully add a Goldfish cracker to the top of the pretzel and chocolate. The pan is still very hot, so you have to remind each girl to not touch the pan, but just to place the Goldfish cracker directly on top of the chocolate. Then I set the baking sheet aside to let the treats cool, so we could eat them later.
Once they were cooled, here’s how they looked. You’d be surprised at how quickly these yummy treats disappeared…
They were a HUGE hit!
We found the large cartons of Goldfish crackers at Walmart on Rollback for only $5.98, which is a great deal. The cartons were located in the crackers aisle on the bottom shelf. You might also find them on a special pallet in your store as well.
Snack #2: Very Hungry Caterpillars
For this snack I set up a bowl of green grapes, a bowl of red grape seed tomatoes, and a cup filled with bamboo skewers.
The girls each took a skewer and filled it with green grapes, then placed a red tomato on the end for the head.
They LOVED making these, and these were a great way to sneak in some fruit.
Snack #3: ABC Letters
For this stations I put out a set of alphabet cookie cutters, along with some bread and cheddar cheese slices.
The kids cut out their names and spelled words from the bread and cheese using the cutters, and then had fun eating their work!
Snack #4: Mini Pizzas
Our last snack to make were mini pizzas. I made up two batches of homemade pizza dough before the party, and let the dough rise during the first part so it was ready to go when it was time to make the pizzas.
I set out small bowls filled with pizza sauce, sliced olives, and pepperoni, and a larger bowl filled with cheese. I placed some bell peppers that I was ready to cut if there were any takers, but as I suspected, there were none! At least I tried, right?
I gave each girl a piece of dough, and they each got to roll it out with my marble rolling pin, spoon on some pizza sauce and smooth it out, sprinkle on the cheese, and then add their toppings. Most of them had never made homemade pizza before, so it was great teaching them the process and watching their excitement as they made their own custom pizza.
They practically glued their cute little faces to the oven door as their pizzas cooked, and were so proud of their custom creations!
Some were small and thick, others were very thin and large- it was fun seeing the variety!
This was SUCH a fun party, and I think it was such a great learning experience for the girls too. They learned how to bake pizzas, and how to make a handful of other fun snacks too.
They loved the colorful Goldfish crackers that I put it in a glass jar for them to snack on, as well as the individual Goldfish crackers bags that I sent them home with. Most of the bags never actually made it home, since the girls were so excited to eat them, and I am totally okay with that. I bought some wood cooking utensils that the girls took home to help their parents cook with.
Their sweet smiles throughout the party were worth every last minute of planning and organizing this chef party, and I definitely plan on doing a snack-making party again!
