Growing up in San Diego, I have many fond memories of visiting SeaWorld with my family. I recently had the opportunity to visit SeaWorld again with my family, so today I’m sharing my top 7 reasons why you should visit SeaWorld San Diego. SeaWorld is truly is a magical place for people of all ages!
Reason #1 Get up close and personal with animals you’ll probably never see in the wild
Ever since I was a child I’ve been obsessed with all things ocean and all of the amazing animals that live in it.
While I dream of snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef with the sea life and going on an Alaskan cruise and watching killer whales swim in their natural habitat, it’s unlikely that it will happen. Going to SeaWorld gives me the chance to marvel over these beautiful ocean creatures and see them in person.
Dolphins and beluga whales have always been my favorite animals. Getting to touch the bottlenose dolphins at Dolphin Point and being so close to them is truly a dream come true! My kids were thrilled when they were finally able to touch one of the dolphins swimming by.
The beluga whales exhibit is absolutely a must-see, as you can see these beautiful creatures from above the water as well as below.
Beluga whales are highly social animals and came right up to us at the glass at the underwater viewing area! We couldn’t get enough of watching these graceful animals glide through the water.
Reason #2 Hands-on interaction with ocean animals
At Explorer’s Reef kids and adults are able to touch and interact with brown-banded sharks, white spotted-bamboo sharks, and cleaner fish.
You can also touch rays and buy fish to feed them at the grotto right next to (and even right underneath) the Manta ride. Even my youngest was able to reach and touch the gliding rays in the water.
Reason #3 Awesome shows
SeaWorld is known for its’ amazing animal shows. We were among one of the last groups to see One Ocean, the Shamu show that is soon ending. They will be replacing the show with a new orca experience coming this year, which will be exciting too!
There is also a dolphin show, a hilarious sea lion and otter show, and a pet show, which are all very entertaining and fun to watch.
Reason #4 The rides
You can take a break from the shows and exhibits with a ride at SeaWorld. There are height requirements for the rides, but even my five year-old was tall enough to go on Journey to Atlantis for his first time, the thrilling ride that drops down into splashing water.
There is also the Wild Arctic Ride, Shipwreck Rapids, Manta, Riptide Rescue, the Skyride, the Skytower, and even more rides for the kids at The Sesame Street Bay of Play. There is definitely a ride (or two or three) for everyone!
Reason #5 Teach your kids in a fun way
It’s one thing to talk to your kids about ocean animals and show them pictures in a book, but it’s a whole different experience to actually see these magnificent animals while learning more about them.
There are signs with lots of information about the different animals at SeaWorld here in San Diego that share interesting facts. It’s a great way to teach your kids about the ocean and all of the animals that live there in a fun and exciting way!
Reason #6 SeaWorld’s conservation efforts
To date, SeaWorld has rescued more than 28,000 animals in need. For over 50 years they’ve helped sick, orphaned, and injured animals. Their goal is to help these animals, then release them back into the wild, and I love that when I visit SeaWorld I’m supporting them and their conservation efforts.
Reason #7 Premier experiences
You have the opportunity to pay some extra money for some of the premiere experiences that SeaWorld offers that are really the chance of a lifetime.
Interacting with dolphins, feeding beluga whales, and seeing the penguins up close and personal are some of the amazing experiences you can have if you’d like to pay some extra money. One day I’d love to do the dolphin and/or beluga whale interaction. It would be a dream come true to interact with my favorite animals under the sea!
I hope this post has given you a glimpse into some of the fun activities that SeaWorld has to offer. We had a great time on our visit to SeaWorld San Diego and I know that you will too!
Thank you SeaWorld for giving us tickets to visit. All ideas and opinions are always my own.
