Creative Art Birthday Party!

A creative art birthday party with a melted crayon sign, giant rainbow cake, rainbow fruit kabobs, Rice Krispies paintbrushes, and more, perfect for the little artist in your life!

One of my favorite parties I have put together was this art birthday party I threw for my daughter’s birthday.

I wanted to share a few of the details with you, since I created this party before I had my blog.

Art Birthday Party

My daughter loves to create anything and everything, and can craft just about anything.

She asked to have an art party this year, and of course I said yes!

This colorful party was just too fun not to share.

Melted Crayon Sign

One of my favorite elements of our art themed birthday party is the “happy birthday” melted crayon art sign I made as a backdrop for the food table.

The sign is so bright and colorful and messy and artsy, all at the same time!

To make this sign, I lined some crayons up along the top of a piece of foam board.

Next, I hot glued them along the top in rainbow order.

I used my blow drier and embossing heat gun to melt the wax down the sign.

Once it all was dry, I just added some American Crafts Thickers (letter stickers from the craft store) to make the words.

I just love the way my sign looks behind all of the colorful rainbow treats on the food table!

Giant Rainbow Cake

Another favorite detail of my daughter’s art party was the monstrous layered rainbow cake that I made.

I wanted our art cake to be bright and colorful, so my brilliant husband cake up with the idea of flicking melted chocolate melts in just about every color all over the cake.

Can you say Jackon Pollock?!

I love the artsy, colorful look it gave to the cake.

Smart man- I wish I had thought of it!

I did think a lot about the inside of the cake though…

Inside the cake is a wonderful layer of rainbow goodness!

I made 6 individual round cakes, then colored each one with a different food color.

Gel food coloring is much brighter, so I used that since I wanted my cake to be bright and cheerful.

I added a thin layer of frosting in between each cake layer, as well as on the outside of the cake.

I just love the colorful result!

You can make individual servings of this like I did with my rainbow cakes inside of baby food jars.

The cake ended up being HUGE because of all the different layers- the bigger the better, right?!

Art Party Food Ideas

We had some fun art party food choices, many in rainbow colors.

Rainbow Fruit Kabobs

These rainbow fruit kabobs were definitely the healthiest snack at the party.

To make them, I washed and cut up fruit in rainbow colors-

red strawberries, orange oranges, yellow pineapple, green kiwi, and purple grapes.

Then I added them all to wood skewers.

The kids loved them!

Colorful Jello Orange Slices

The jello oranges were so much fun- these were some of the first snacks to be devoured by the hungry kiddos!

I made these in rainbow colors as well to match the theme, all in different Jell-O flavors.

Rainbow Slush

I blended, flavored, and colored ice in different batches, then layered the in rainbow order in a big serving dish.

It was like a giant rainbow Slurpee!

Rice Krispies Paintbrushes

For these sweet paintbrushes (complete with turquoise chocolate “paint”), I made a batch of Rice Krispie treats, then cut them in rectangles.

You can also use pre-made treats for even less work.

I used my hand to gently form them into a paintbrush shape, then I placed a large wood popsicle stick into the bottom.

Next, I dipped the treats into melted turquoise chocolate melts, which looked like fresh turquoise paint.

Art Birthday Party Activities

For the art party activities, I set up a few different stations where the kids each made a different art of craft at each booth.

Everyone had a great time, and the party was a huge success.
