I remember eating my first bite of bruschetta as a teenager, and it was definitely a case of love at first bite. Can you ever really go wrong with fresh tomatoes, basil, and garlic? Today I’m sharing with you a delicious bruschetta recipe that will make your taste buds sing and is very simple to make!
Since there are only a few ingredients in this bruschetta recipe, you want to make sure that every ingredient is of the highest quality. Choose small, flavorful grape or cherry tomatoes (I used a variety of colors), fresh basil, and high quality olive oil.
To make this classic bruschetta appetizer even better, I melted mozzarella cheese on top of the bread before adding the tomato mixture.
I used Sargento® Sliced Cheese because it’s real, 100% natural cheese sliced from the block. Pasteurized Process Cheese Food, also known as American Singles, is only required to contain 51% cheese. I’ll take the 100% real, natural cheese from Sargento please!
Brushetta Recipe
Ingredients:
- Grape or cherry tomatoes
- Fresh basil
- 1 Tbsp. olive oil
- 1/2 Tbsp. balsamic vinegar
- Salt and pepper
- Garlic clove
- Baguette or French bread
- Sargento Mozzarella Sliced Cheese
Step 1. Cut the tomatoes. I like to cut mine in half or fourths, depending on their size. Slice fresh basil leaves into thin strips, then add to the tomatoes in a medium-sized bowl. Add the Tbsp. olive oil, the 1/2 Tbsp. balsamic vinegar, and some salt and pepper to taste. Set aside.
Step 2. Slice a baguette diagonally into slices. Place the slices on a baking sheet, then bake for about 10 minutes in a 350 degree oven.
Remove from the oven, then rub a peeled clove of garlic along the top of each slice of bread. This is the traditional way to make bruschetta, and you’ll be surprised at the punch of garlic flavor that this gives the bread! I rub the garlic across each piece about 5 or 6 times.
Next place a slice of Sargento Sliced Mozzarella Cheese on top. Depending on the size of the bread, you might need to cut the cheese smaller to fit the bread. Place back in the oven until the cheese is melted. Remove.
Step 3. Add spoonfuls of the tomato mixture onto the bread, and serve immediately.
I like to garnish with more fresh basil over the top because fresh basil is my favorite.
This bruschetta recipe tastes so amazing! I love how all of the fresh flavors blend together and accentuate each other. You can also make the tomato mixture a few hours ahead of time and let the flavors combine and meld together.
I hope you love this delicious recipe as much as I do! It’s a great dish to serve as an appetizer for the family, for a dinner party, or for the upcoming holidays.
