Cardboard Christmas Tree Decoration

I’ve been Christmas crafting up a storm this week. I’m so excited for Christmas I just couldn’t help myself! Today I’m sharing with you a darling cardboard Christmas tree decoration I made. It’s the perfect size, it’s free or cheap to make, and it’s a great way to recycle!

My kids want to decorate their rooms each year for Christmas, and this cardboard Christmas tree is a great way to do just that. Would you believe that this tree is made from a Huggies® diaper box? With just a few supplies you can make your own too!

I recently went to Sam’s Club and bought a box of Huggies® Little Movers and Huggies® Natural Care Wipes to get stocked up for our baby girl that’s due in just a few short months. These diapers are designed for active babies and are meant to stay in place during active play. I have four kids, and I’ve used Huggies diapers for each of my children because they’re the BEST.

Cardboard Christmas Tree Decoration

Supplies:

Huggies® cardboard box
Scissors or craft knife
Green glitter
Glue gun
Christmas tree template

STEP 1. Cut a panel of cardboard off the diapers or wipes packaging. Print out a Christmas tree shape and cut it out to use as a template. I used a great template I found here.

STEP 2. Trace the template onto the cardboard twice with a pencil. Cut out the trees with strong scissors or a craft knife.

Cut a long slit from the top middle of one of the trees a little more than halfway down the tree. Cut a slit in the other Christmas tree in the bottom middle of the tree going up.

Slide the trees together by placing the slits together to form a 3-d tree.

STEP 3. Spray paint a couple of light coats of green glitter spray paint onto your cardboard tree, making sure to let the tree dry in between coats. Make sure that the entire tree is evenly covered with paint.

Now you have a pretty sparkly cardboard Christmas tree decoration that you made for practically nothing! You can either leave your tree plain, like I did, or let the kids have fun adding pom moms, glitter, a star, and more to their tree to decorate it!

The tree goes perfectly with my DIY Chalkboard Christmas sign and some cute felt ball garlands, doesn’t it?

It would be fun to have one of these in each room to decorate with, or to make a whole forest of these trees in different sizes and colors.
