If you’ve been following my Instagram stories, you’ve probably noticed that I’m head over heels in love with my new baby girl who just turned three weeks old yesterday. I’ve had an idea for a cute DIY Cricut iron on onesie, leggings, and hair bow that I’ve been wanting to make for her. Last week I got to work and wanted to share her darling new outfit with you!
I’m also sharing the free cut file and tutorial to show you exactly how you can make your own Cricut iron on onesie, leggings, and even a hair bow too (with no sewing required.. score!).
I love the Cat Stevens song “Wild World,” and the lyrics just seemed perfect to put on a baby onesie- “Oh baby baby it’s a wild world…” But why stop at just a onesie?
I wanted to make some “wild” leggings to go with it, so I added a small bear pattern to my baby’s black stretchy onesies and made an easy hair bow from stretchy knit fabric to tie it all together.

Seriously guys, I’m in LOVE with her new outfit! The best part about it is that I used the new Cricut SportFlex Iron On™ to make the bears on the leggings and the bow. Both fabrics were very stretchy. I didn’t want the iron-on bears to get stretched out and crack, so I tried out the new SportFlex Iron On™. It worked perfectly and stretched perfectly with the fabric!
The new SportFlex Iron On™ is made specially for tech products like nylon and polyester, which make it a great choice for customizing all your active wear. This product is pretty amazing because it’s really stretchable, thin, and lightweight, so it stretches perfectly with your clothing. It also features the Cricut StrongBond™ Guarantee* for long-lasting results that stick, so you have nothing to lose. Give the new SportFlex Iron On™ a try!
Cricut Iron On Leggings
Supplies:
- Baby leggings (I bought mine for under $3 at Walmart!)
- Cricut SportFlex Iron On™ white
- Cricut Explore Air 2 machine
- Cricut EasyPress and EasyPress Mat (an iron and a towel work too)
Step 1. Click over to Cricut Design Space to get the free cut file I created. Click “Make It,” then turn on the “Mirror” setting.
Turn on your Cricut Explore machine, turn the dial to the Iron On Setting, load your mat with the white Cricut SportFlex Iron On™ material on it with the shiny side down, then press the blinking arrow button to load the mat.
Press the blinking “C” button to cut the iron on. Remove the mat and material once cut by pressing the blinking arrow button.
** If you want to cover the back of the leggings with the bear design, then you’ll need to cut the design twice onto two different pieces of SportFlex Iron On™ white.
Step 2. Use your weeding tool to remove the excess material from the image on the clear plastic.
Step 3. Preheat a section of the the area where the image will go on the leggings with your Cricut EasyPress or iron. Click HERE for the recommended EasyPress and iron settings.
Place the weeded image liner side up onto the leggings. If using the EasyPress, make sure the machine is set to the correct temperature and time for your leggings material (check the recommended settings HERE). Place the EasyPress over the bear design, then press the “C” button to start the EasyPress.
Once the machine beeps, remove the EasyPress. Wait a minute or two for it to cool, then carefully peel off the clear plastic. Repeat step 3 until the entire leggings are covered with the bear pattern.
** For the back of the leggings, I didn’t run them over and reheat the front because I was afraid it would ruin the design on the front. I just added a few seconds to the time and it worked perfectly!
Aren’t they CUTE?!? The possibilities are endless with this technique- think about all the cute leggings colors and patterns you could make for your kiddos!
Cricut Iron On Hair Bow
Supplies:
- Stretchy knit fabric (I bought a small piece for around $1-2 at the craft store. You could also cut a solid colored t-shirt and use that instead.)
- Cricut SportFlex Iron On™ white
- Cricut Explore Air 2 machine
- Cricut EasyPress and EasyPress Mat (an iron and a towel work too)
- Glue gun
- Nylon headband
Step 1. First you’ll need to cut your stretchy fabric. To make a 3 1/2″ wide bow, I cut a piece of fabric that was about 7 1/4″ long and 2″ wide. Use a glue gun to glue one end over the other so that you have a 3 1/2″ wide loop of fabric.
Step 2. You should have a few extra bears from making the leggings above. If you have two extras, you’ll use these for the hair bow headband. If you don’t have any extras, you’ll need to cut two more bears from the white Cricut SportFlex Iron On™.
Follow steps 2 and 3 above to iron on two bears, one on each side of the black loop. Cut a small piece of fabric out for the middle of the bow. Place a small dot of glue onto the back of the bow, then place the nylon headband over the glue.
Wrap the small piece of fabric over the front of the bow then glue then ends together in the back over the nylon headband. Trim away any excess fabric.
Stretch out the headband a few times with your hands, then place on your baby’s head. These nylon headbands are great because they don’t leave a mark on your newborn’s head, and they’re super stretchy.
Now this cute baby hair bow matches your baby’s leggings perfectly!

Isn’t this outfit the cutest? I’m so happy with how the Cricut iron on onesie, leggings, and bow all turned out.
My baby girl wore hers today when I took my kids to the dentist to get their teeth cleaned, and everyone was oohing and ahing over her and her cute outfit. Mission accomplished! 😉

Enjoyed your website, thanks for the information on the baby leggings
I’m so glad you stopped by and enjoyed my baby leggings tutorial Debbie. I get so many compliments on them whenever my daughter wears them. People are shocked when I tell them I added the pattern on them! 😉
im trying to multiply the image for a shirt i want to make but when i go to cut it goes all in a row
That was so frustrating to me when that hapenned until I figured out how easy it was to fix! To prevent that from hapenning, what you need to do is to “select all”, meaning select your whole design, then click on the “attach” button on the bottom right hand side of the screen. That will hold your design together and keep it exactly how you have it when it goes to cut. Help that helps!
I always wonder why people waste so much vinyl ? I would just cut a bunch of bears out close together and cut them apart – uses so much less and makes it much cheaper!
True! For this project, I wanted to make sure it all lined up quickly and easily, since I had a newborn baby and not a whole lot of time. But generally I’m with you, I don’t like to waste vinyl either. 😉
