My sweet boy is a HUGE dinosaur fan, so towards the end of last year I threw him a big fun dinosaur party. I’ll be sharing lots of the dinosaur party details and DIY’s in the next week or two, but today I wanted to share the dinosaur party invitations that I originally shared on Live.Craft.Love.
I’m a firm believer in cute and unique party invitations. The invitations set the tone for the whole party and are the first impression that party guests will receive. Make it a memorable first impression!
For these invitations, I made some salt dough dino bones and buried them in a box with soil. We gave them to friends and family, along with an invitation that had all of the party details on it. I loved seeing the kids who I gave them to dig through the box and discover the small “bones” inside, and it gave them a small taste of what they would be doing at the party.
These dinosaur bones are also great to make just for fun for your budding paleontologist to discover in the sandbox!
Dinosaur Party Invitations:
Supplies:
- Salt dough (recipe below)
- Paper mache square boxes
- Sand
- Jute
- Kraft cards and envelopes
Salt Dough Recipe:
- 2 c flour
- 1 c salt
- 1 c water
Directions:
Step 1. Combine the salt and flour, then slowly add the water and mix. You might not need all the water, so add a little at a time, then stir until the dough is firm, and not sticky.
Step 2. Create small bone shapes out of the dough. I did this by rolling a small piece like a snake, and then creating the rounded bone shape at the end. These don’t have to be perfect! I wanted mine to look rough and rugged, like they’ve been underground for millions of years. 😉
Step 3. Bake the dough bones in a degree oven for minutes. Let cool.
Step 4. Fill each paper mache box 3/4 up with soil. Bury the dinosaur bones down in the dirt, and put the lid back on the box. Tie the lid onto the box with jute.
Step 5. Write or print the party details on the blank Kraft cards, fold, and put in the matching envelopes. Pass the box and cards out to friends and family, who get to dig down into the dirt to find the dino bones.
I bet all those kiddos won’t want to miss the party with these invitations! Stay tuned for more dinosaur party details and fun coming soon!
