Hi there! I recently created some cute DIY cupcake stands for the Sizzix Gift Guide. Sizzix is bundling up Big Shot die cut machines with dies into bundles at really great prices, and I created this tutorial and photos for part of the guide. I love how this cupcake stand turned out, so I wanted to share it with you, too!
With the upcoming holidays, these cupcake holders are a pretty and fun way to display tasty cupcakes at dinners, parties, or just because.
With the Sizzix Scoreboards Cupcake Stand & Pennant XL Die and some Sizzix Little Sizzles Mat Board, you can make a gorgeous cupcake stand like this in no time!
First you’ll need to cut two of the stand bases, one flat top, and the flag from the white mat board. To do this, make a simple Sizzix sandwich with an extended cutting pad, the cupcake stand die, the paper that you’d like to use face down, and the other extended cutting pad. Roll the sandwich through the Big Shot to cut the board.
Now repeat this procedure for the paper that you’d like to cover the cupcake stand in. Once the paper is die cut, glue it onto the matching mat board pieces. Assemble the stand by first putting together the base, and then gluing on the top to the base.
I wanted the cute scalloped edges of the cupcake stand to look shimmery and snowy, so I applied Aileen’s Glitter Snow with my finger onto the scallops, and let dry. I love the textured edges that this simple step gave me. I also hot glued a plastic peppermint to the from of the stand just for fun.
I made a cute and simple cupcake flag by cutting out the pennant piece from mat board and patterned paper, gluing the paper on the board, and then gluing on a simple plastic peppermint to the front middle of the flag. Before closing and gluing the pennant, be sure to add a toothpick inside to make the pennant stand up.
Last but certainly not least, place a cupcake on the stand and place the cupcake flag onto the cupcake.
Now you’re ready for your holiday parties!
Happy crafting!
