DIY Winter Village House

Can you believe that the holidays are amost here?  I love absolutely everything about this time of year!!

I’m starting my Christmas crafting and projects early this year, and I wanted to share this cute little DIY winter village house that I made.

This is one of those projects that looks like it would be really complicated and time-consuming to make, but was actually quite easy!  Tim Holtz has a new Village Dwelling Sizzix Bigz die that makes is fun and simple to make cute little winter village houses.

For even more cuteness, I used the Village Winter Bigz die to create the snow-topped roof and icicles on the little home.  I can’t even tell you how much I love the completed little home!

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Sizzix and the Sizzix Big Shot, here are the general directions on how I made my winter village house.  First I made a “Sizzix sandwich” and stacked an Extended Cutting Pad, the Village Winter die (face up), my paper, and then the Extended Premium Crease Pad on top.

I ran it all through my Big Shot die cut machine, which gave me all the pieces I needed to make my house.  I used a few couple different colors of paper for variety.  I wanted my house to look soft and light, so I used white and a pretty pastel pink and light blue.

I followed the directions on the inside of the die packaging to assemble the house, and it was really easy.  It was just a matter of a few folds and adding some glue to a few tabs.  Once the house was assembled, I die cut the snow and icicles using the Village Winter die.

To give the paper snow a glistening snow effect, I painted on some Aleene’s Quick Dry Tacky Glue (one of my favorite adhesives) with a foam brush, then added pretty irridescent glitter to the top.

I plan on making a whole winter village with these dies and with my kiddos.  Maybe we’ll make some turn on some Christmas music and make cookies too, while we’re at it! 😉
