Make it official with this FREE Elf adoption certificate for your Elf on the Shelf! This cute printable is easy to print at home and place next to your elf to let the kids know he is now part of the family.
Have a new elf in the family this Christmas season? Let’s make it official with an elf adoption certificate!
Our Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas tradition our family looks forward to every year.
We have a boy and a girl elf that stay with our family until Christmas Eve, when they fly back to the North Pole with Santa.
While our elves are here, they leave our kids all sorts of fun activities, treats, letters, and more.
Our younger kids LOVE waking up and trying to find our silly elves and see what mischief they might have caused!
If you still need a name for your fun elf, be sure to check out our FREE printable list of 113 Elf on the Shelf names!
Elf Adoption Certificate
What exactly is an Elf on the Shelf adoption certificate and why do you need one?
This cute certificate certifies that your new elf has been adopted by your family this holiday season.
It’s even signed by Santa Claus himself and is delivered straight from the North Pole by your elf!
This free printable elf adoption certificate even has the official North Pole Post seal on it. 😉
How Do I Use these Christmas Printables?
- Once your elf has arrived on December 1st, (don’t forget your FREE Elf on the Shelf letter), the kids will need to give him or her a name.
- After your elf has been named, leave your elf out that first night with his or her filled out adoption certificate after the kids have gone to bed.
- When they wake up, they will see that Santa signed this official certificate and that your elf is now part of the family!

I’ve made a boy version and a girl version depending on if you have a boy elf or a girl elf.

Just press on the instant download link you’d like below to access the templates and print!
- Each version is standard sized and created to print on an 8.5 x 11″ piece of paper.
- I recommend printing on thick white card stock to make the certificate thicker and more durable.
- You can print your official elf adoption certificate at home, but for the best quality, try printing a color copy at Office Depot, Staples, Office Max, or your local print shop.
