Nature puts on a beautiful show for us each fall, so why not get outdoors this season and savor all that autmn has to offer with a fall picnic? It’s a great way to relax, unwind, and spend quality time in nature with those we love.
I recently created a lovely fall picnic for our family that I’m excited to share with you. I’ve got lots of simple fall picnic ideas and inspiration for you to create a fall picnic party that you can be proud of!
Perfect Fall Picnic Ideas
Location location location
You’ll want to have your picnic somewhere scenic. Your local park, a picnic table in the woods, or a pretty lookout point in the mountains are all great places for a relaxing picnic.
If kids will be attending your picnic, make sure that your location is safe and that you can see your kids at a distance in case in case they decide to go exploring.
Make sure to provide enough seating for all your fellow picnicers. If there isn’t a table nearby, get creative!
A blanket or even tree stumps or large wood slices make the perfect seats and table for your picnic.
Stacked slices made up multiple tables at varying heights for lots of tasty picnic food and fall decorations at our fall picnic.
It was such a fun and interesting way to serve food!
Fall Picnic Food Ideas
Speaking of food, we had a delightful assortment of food at our outdoor picnic that everyone couldn’t get enough of.
We started off with some rustic bread, smoked cheese, and seasoned chicken breast.
I tried to use simple, convenient food that was high quality and tasted delicious but involved little to no prep work. I have 5 kids after all, and I wanted to spend more time enjoying rather than cooking and baking. 😉
Some of our other picnic food included organic colored carrots, fresh apples and pomegranates from our trees, apple juice, cinnamon rolls, and mini pumpkin, pecan, apple, cherry, and blueberry pies.
The mini, individual sized pies were perfect for a picnic because they were easy to grab and eat. No messy cutting or serving!
Fall Picnic Decorating Ideas
There are so many great choices for fall picnic table decorations. Many of these items you might already have or are free!
I started by looking around my home for things that were made out of wood or looked rustic. Wood boxes, a wood vase, cinnamon sticks, and wood candles fit our fall picnic perfectly!
The lantern and candles really added a nice ambiance to the picnic too. My husband and I made the wood candles. I’ll be sharing the tutorial for those very soon!
The wood candles were enclosed by a pretty rustic fall wreath that I made with mini pinecones, acorns, seed pods, bark, and more. Tutorial coming soon for that one too.
I gathered up some of the pumpkins and gourds that we grew in our garden, as well as some of our pumpkins I bought for Halloween.
Their rich fall colors added depth and a natural, earthy feel to our fall picnic party.
Cinnamon pinecones were sprinkled throughout the fall picnic table decorations and gave the air a nice fall scent. These are always a must-buy for me each fall because I just can’t resist their spicy scent!
I picked up a large fall bouquet in deep, rich colors at the grocery store. I was able to make two bouquets out of the large one, and I love the color and femininity that the flowers added to my fall picnic tablescape!
Cinnamon sticks provided great filler around the cinnamon rolls. The rolls were smaller than the box I put them in so I just added a few cinnamon sticks to fill in the empty space.
Here is a nice list of some great fall picnic decorating ideas.
