Summer is in full swing, and today I’ve got a fun DIY outdoor game that will get you outside enjoying the wonderful weather! This DIY yard game is really easy to make and is a fun game for kids and adults of all ages.
I’ve always loved playing the game Yahtzee, so I came up with the idea of creating some DIY giant dice to use for an outdoor Yahtzee game. With just a few supplies, you’ll be out in the backyard, at the park, or even at the beach enjoying this fun game!
Giant Yahtzee DIY Outdoor Game
Supplies:
- 4 in. x 4 in. x 6 ft. wood fence post (Mine came from Home Depot)
- Palm sander or sandpaper
- Spray paint (any color works)
- Cricut Outdoor Vinyl
- Cricut Explore Air 2 Machine
(optional)
Step 1. Cut the wood fence post into 5 4″ cubes. A worker at Home Depot cut mine for free, but you could also cut them at home with a saw.
Step 2. Use a palm sander to sand each side of the wood cubes until smooth. Wipe off the sawdust from each dice with a cloth.
Step 3. Spray paint one section of the dice, let dry, and repeat until all areas of the dice are painted.
Step 4. The white circles on the dice are made from white outdoor vinyl so they are durableand strong. I used my Cricut Explore Air 2 machine to easily cut all the vinyl circles, but you could also use a circle punch or hand cut each one (though that might take a while to do!).
If you decide to use a Cricut, I’ve included the free cut file I created for you to cut out all your circles. 🙂
Once you cut out the white vinyl circles, simply press them onto each side of the wood cubes so that the numbers 1-6 are represented on each dice.
To play yard Yahtzee, head outdoors and just take turns rolling the dice like the regular Yahtzee game. You can use a large bucket, bowl, or small new trash can to roll and throw the dice with.
Just use the regular Yahtzee score pads to keep score! If you don’t have any, just google “Yahtzee score sheet printable” and you can print some out. 😉
After a rousing game of yard Yahtzee, it’s nice to sit back and relax outside with a fire. I love using my Duraflame fire logs because they are soooo easy to light, it just takes a few minutes, and there’s not a ton of heavy smoke like with a wood fire.
It’s the perfect way to unwind and gather as family and friends as the sun goes down.
Happy summer!
