I recently had the privilege of having one of my craft projects turned into a project sheet and endcap display at craft stores. Now that the project is up in stores, I am so excited to finally be able to share the finished project with you! I made a pretty gold sequin bag for the perfect Mother’s Day gift for your mom.
This gold sequin bag for a Mother’s Day gift is really simple to make, and is pretty cool because it can be customized by you to say mom, mother, your mom’s name, or any other word you would like. I love the fact that it also is done in your handwriting, which is another neat way that this bag is personalized by you! Even older kids could make a bag for mom for Mother’s Day, and even one for themselves when they are done. 😉
Gold Sequin Bag Mother’s Day Gift
Supplies:
- White cotton tote bag (Mine was 14” x 16”)
- 2’ Gold sequin ribbon
- Beacon Gem-Tac Adhesive (or any other strong adhesive)
- Pencil
- Basic sewing kit (or needle and thread)
Step 1. Iron the bag on the cotton setting. With a pencil, write the word “Mom” lightly on the front of the bag.
Step 2. Trim the end of the sequin ribbon. Trace over the first letter on the bag with a thin layer of glue.
Step 3. Gently press the sequin ribbon down onto the glue.
Step 4. Repeat for each letter until the word is completed. Let the glue dry for up to 24 hours.
Step 5. Erase any stray pencil marks on the bag.
Step 6. Thread a needle with gold or tan thread and tie a knot at the end. Starting from the inside of the bag, bring the needle up through the bag near the 5th sequin, and bring the needle back through the middle of the sequin. Repeat with the needle and thread on every 5th sequin until the entire word is reinforced with stitching.
Pretty easy, right? And now look how cute the bag is, personalized with your own handwriting just for mom!
And just for fun, here’s a peek at what the project sheet looks like that is up in stores. Eeek, so exciting!
Happy crafting!
