Cozying up with my family and watching our favorite Halloween movies is one of my favorite things about October. Today I’m sharing a spook-tacular Halloween movie night party that looks amazing, is simple to put together, and that the family will absolutely LOVE!
Balloons are one of my favorite ways to add a pop of color to a party, so I created an orange, black, and white balloon arch.
To make your own, just blow up a bunch of balloons in your party colors. Take a big needle and some fishing line and “sew” through the ends of each balloon under the tied portion to string them all up in a row.
Push each balloon together down the fishing line so that they are all bunched together and your can’t see the tied ends, then hang. It really couldn’t be much easier to create your own amazing balloon arch that will impress everyone!
I also bought a 3 and 1 gold number balloon (for October 31st), then spray painted them black. While the paint was wet on each one, I sprinkled on some gold glitter to add a little shimmer and help them match my gold bar cart.
I decided to make our Halloween movie night party mobile this year and fill up our gold bar cart with a plethora of terrifying treats and sweets. My candy cart has three levels, which was perfect for fitting in as many concessions as possible.
Each level was given the scare factor by adding some black ribbon and tulle trim around the top of each tray and attaching with glue dots.
The top level was filled with frightening food and creepy cakes that look like skulls.
Party guests at our movie night could pick their poison and enjoy snacking on their faovorite treats throughout the movie.
Black licorice witch hair, white chocolate pretzel skeleton bones, black and white striped suckers, poisonous candy corn, chocolate caramel bat eyes, and twisted caramel apple suckers were all a BIG hit at our Halloween movie night! The black raven perched on the treats kept a watchful eye on the candy stash.
One of the coolest Halloween treats at our Halloween movie night party were these mini Halloween skull cakes. Filled with orange cake made with Fanta Orange and completely covered in white chocolate, these were definitely a creepy addition to our Halloween party.
Keep reading to see how I made these and you can make your own!
All those treats will make one thirsty, which is why the second level of our Halloween bar cart was filled with 12 oz. cans of Fanta Orange that I bought at Albertsons, along with some of the other treats at our Halloween party. Fanta comes in a varitey of fun and fruity flavors that helps mom create a fun movie night that the entire family will love!
The soda was perfect to display on the cart because they have awesome Halloween packaging that fit perfectly with the party and our party colors, in addition to tasting delicious! The Halloween Fanta packaging features Noma Bar designs inspired by Universal’s new Mummy and their other classic monster characters.
No movie night would be complete without popcorn, so I picked up some Pop Secret popcorn from Albertsons and poured it into a big witch cauldron that I bought there too. I added a big scoop for guests to scoop their pocorn into some black popcorn boxes.
Candy pumpkins and mini white marshmallows were there too for guests who wanted to add them to their popcorn to make a fun Halloween snack mix.
And now for those amazing skull cakes. These are one of my favorite Halloween treats ever! You’d never guess how simple they are to make.
Halloween Skull Cakes
Ingredients:
- White box cake mix
- 1 cup Fanta Orange soda
- White almond bark or white chocolate melts
- Skull mold
STEP 1. Pour the cake mix in a bowl and add 1 cup Fanta Orange soda. Mix for 1-2 minutes until combined.
STEP 2. Pour the cake batter into a 9×13 pan and bake in a 350 degree oven for about 20 minutes. Each oven will vary, but you will know that your cake is baked when a toothpick stuck into the center of the cake comes out clean. Remove from the oven and let cool.
STEP 3. Melt your white almond bark. I use a chocolate melter for this but your microwave works too. Just follow the directions on the back of your package to melt. Pour some white chocolate into the skull mold and slowly swirl it around the inside of the mold so that the entire inside is covered in a layer chocolate.
I like to repeat this a couple times to make the chocolate a bit thicker. Your mold should like look this from the bottom.
STEP 4. Using your skull mold as a guide, cut a piece of cake to fit into the mold, It doesn’t have to be perfect! You can trim and cut the cake as you go so that it fits, then place into the mold.
Step 5. Now cover the entire back of the skull with chocolate, making sure to fill in any gaps. Place in the fridge until the chocolate is completely hard, about 20 minutes.
To remove the cakes from the mold, gently twist the mold a bit to loosen the chocolate, then place the mold upside down and pop the skull out.
Aren’t these cakes incredible?! The mold I used created skull cakes that were about the size of a softball, so these cakes are definitely great for sharing.
Are you “dying” to see what the inside looks like? The delicious orange cake has a nice shell of white chocolate around the entire thing, and tastes incredible!
I hope you’ve enjoyed our Halloween movie night party!
I love creating memorable nights and holiday traditions to enjoy with those I love the most.
Happy Halloween!
