It’s the most wonderful time of the year, isn’t it? With the upcoming holidays comes creating and planning thoughtful gifts for friends, neighbors, and teachers. Today I’m sharing how to make a lovely hot cocoa gift basket that everyone on your list will love!
This hot cocoa gift basket is beautiful, simple to put together, and has some pretty homemade touches that really make this gift special.
I used my Cricut Explore Air 2 to create these pretty homemade touches.
I’m sharing the files with you today so that you can easily recreate them too!
Hot Cocoa Gift Basket
You’ll be making two different projects with your Cricut Explore to create this hot cocoa gift basket. I’ll go over each project, then show you how to put it all together!

DIY Modern Christmas Tree Towel
Supplies:
- White flour sack towel
- Cricut Explore Air™ 2 machine
- Cricut black iron-on lite
- Cricut EasyPress Machine (optional, but highly recommended!)
Directions:
STEP 1. Press HERE to go to the Christmas tree file I designed in Design Space.
Turn the dial on your machine to the iron on setting.
Press “Make It” and follow the prompts to load your mat with black iron-on, shiny side down.
Cut the design with your Cricut Explore.
STEP 2. Peel the material off the mat.
Peel the negative black iron-on material off the plastic backing so that just the Christmas trees
are left on the plastic backing.
STEP 3. For this step you can either use your iron or the Cricut EasyPress machine.
An iron will work, but won’t do nearly the job that the Cricut EasyPress will do!
The EasyPress is soooo easy to use and creates a very strong, lasting bond that won’t peel.
Turn on the Cricut EasyPress.
Iron your flour sack towel.
Place the Christmas tree images, plastic liner side up, onto the preheated towel.
I set mine for the recommended temperature for cotton and iron-on for 305 degrees F for 30 seconds.
Press the green “C” button to start the timer.
Hold the handle on top of the EasyPress over your design until the machine beeps.
Remove the EasyPress and repeat for the rest of the design.
Let the towel cool for a few seconds.
STEP 4. Gently peel the plastic off the design.
Voila! Isn’t it amazing?!
I LOVE how cute this towel is now!
It’s amazing what little iron-on can do, isnt’ it?
The best part is that the possibilities of what you can create are limitless.
There are so many cool designs, fonts, and images that you can use in Design Space to customize and make things your own.
Merry Christmas Vinyl Mugs
Supplies:
- 2 white mugs
- Cricut Explore Air™ 2 machine
- Cricut red vinyl
- Cricut transfer tape
- Weeder tool
STEP 1. Press HERE to go to the Merry Christmas cut file in Design Space.
I sized the words to fit perfectly on my mugs, but double-check and make sure the words are the right size for your mug. If not, simply resize!
Turn the dial on your machine to the vinyl setting.
Press “Make It” and follow the prompts to load your mat with red vinyl.
Cut the design with your Cricut Explore.
STEP 2. Remove the design from the mat, then peel the negative red vinyl from the design.
Use the weeder tool to remove the small insides of the letters so that just the design is left.
STEP 3. Remove the liner from the transfer tape.
Place the tape sticky side down onto the “Merry Christmas” design.
Press the tape on the vinyl with your fingers or a craft stick tool to adhere the words to the tape.
Peel the transfer tape off with the vinyl attached.
Place the transfer tape with the vinyl on it onto the mug, making sure it is straight and lined up where you want it.
Start in the center and use your fingers or a craft tool to burnish the vinyl onto the mug.
Peel the transfer tape away from the vinyl at a 45 degree angle.
Doesn’t the mug look so professional?
It looks like I bought it with the design on.
The words add so much to the mug!
Now repeat for the other mug so that you have two.
How to Put Together the Hot Cocoa Gift Basket
Supplies:
- Wood box or a basket (I found a really cool wood box by Better Homes and Gardens at Walmart in the organizing section)
- Holiday fabric (I used my favorite red and black buffalo plaid)
- Modern Christmas tree towel
- Merry Christmas vinyl mugs
- Glass jar (choose one that fits inside your box or basket)
- Hot cocoa mix
- Candy canes (optional)
- Mini wreath (optional)
Directions:
STEP 1. Place the holiday fabric inside your box or basket.
I folded the excess ends under fabric.
Place the Christmas tree towel folded in thirds in the middle of the box or basket.
STEP 2. Add a mug to each side of the box or basket.
Place some candy canes in the mugs.
Fill the glass jar with hot cocoa mix, then close and add to the middle of the box.
I glued a cute mini wreath to the top of the jar, but this is totally optional. Ribbon or another Cricut design would look great too!
Now your cute hot cocoa gift set is ready for giving! The hard part will be choosing who the lucky recipient will be. 😉
You can also easily make multiples to give to teachers, neighbors, friends, and anyone else who you want to show your appreciation to this Christmas.
I hope you enjoyed this fun tutorial!
My kids are already calling dibs on this one that I made for their teachers, so I think I’ll be making more in the coming weeks.
