This Muppets craft is sponsored by Disney and Blueprint Social. As always, all ideas and opinions are 100% mine.
I fondly remember sitting down with my family as a child once a week after bath time for the Muppets Show. We looked forward to the show every week, and would have so much fun laughing together as a family! Today’s project features one of my favorite Muppets characters, plus a new character from Disney’s new movie, Muppets Most Wanted. These Kermit the Frog Paper Lanterns are sure to put a smile on any Muppet-lover’s face, and is perfect for a Muppets themed birthday party.
My kids absolutely LOVE the movie, and have been singing the songs non-stop! We were lucky enough to get sent a copy of the movie a few weeks before it comes out, and it has quickly become a new favorite.
If you’re anything like me, you’ll be singing along with your kids to the fun songs in this movie too!
Now on to the project! This Kermit the Frog (and Constantine) paper lantern is pretty easy to make. Your kids will love watching Kermit come to life.
Kermit the Frog Paper Lantern:
Supplies:
- Light green paper lantern (the kind pictured below)
- Red 12 x 12″ piece of cardstock
- Pink, white, and black cardstock
- Scissors
- Glue gun
Directions:
Fold the red cardstock in half. Making sure that the paper lantern is closed, line the ends of the lantern with the folded edge of the paper. Trace around the outside of the lantern, and then cut out the shape. This will be the inside of Kermit’s mouth.
Cut out a pink tongue from the pink card stock, and glue it into the inside of the red mouth.
Place a long string of hot glue along the edge of one of the sides of the paper lantern. Very carefully stick one side of the mouth onto the string of hot glue, and very gently tap the mouth to press it into the glue (be careful, it will be hot!). Repeat for the other side of the mouth.
Now that Kermit has his mouth, we need to give him some eyes! Cut two medium-sized circles out of the white paper. I just traced along the bottom of a cup, and then cut around the line. Cut the bottom portion off the round eyes.
Cut two small circles out of the black paper, and then two small black rainbow shapes. Glue the black rainbow shapes onto the white eyes, and then the black circles on top of that, so that you have two eyes that look just like Kermit’s.
Place a thin line of hot glue towards the top of the lantern, in between the folds above the mouth, and press the eyes down into the glue to make them stay. Press firmly for about 10 seconds while the glue cools.
Isn’t he just adorable?
My kiddos wanted to hold him and make him talk. If you want to make a Constantine (the villain frog) paper lantern, simply cut out a small black circle and glue it on the left side above Kermit’s mouth.
My kids loved making Constantine say, “Dance, monkey, dance,” which is a line from their favorite song in the movie! 😉
I hope you enjoy this fun Muppets craft, and enjoy your Kermit the Frog paper lantern as much as we have!
Happy crafting!

Thanks so much Heather!! I just love how cute he is. Of course it’s impossible not to love anything with Kermit’s face on it. 😉
