I’ve partnered with Bed Bath & Beyond to bring you this toe-tapping La La Land party. All ideas and opinions are always 100% my own.
The big awards show is this weekend and you want to throw an amazing party, but you don’t want to hassle with all that work. I get it.
You’re in luck, because today I’m sharing an awards show ready La La Land party that will have you lacing up your black and white dancing shoes, belting out those contagious La La Land melodies, all while keeping your eyes peeled for that someone in the crowd.
You’ll need a few things to throw a swoon-worthy La La Land party, and I’ll be showing you exactly how I put together our party table, and even share some FREE printables with you too!
Warning: Lots of La La Land references coming up… If you haven’t seen the movie, yet, go! I’ll wait. No spoilers here though, so you can keep reading…
When planning a party around a movie, I like to think of a few key elements or symbols and try to incorporate them.
For La La Land, those black and white dancing shoes, piano keys, the color dark blue (shown throughout the movie in the darkening sky, Emma’s dress, etc.), music, old movies and vintage Hollywood, and the Seb’s logo that Emma designed for Sebastian were all things that I thought were important to include.
If they were important enough to be a running theme throughout La La Land, then they were a necessity for my La La Land party.
I covered our party table with a white tablecloth, then placed a long cardboard box underneath in the back center. It made the perfect stand for a keyboard worthy of Seb’s mad piano skills. If only I could program it to play City of Stars for me nonstop.
Fun Fact: Did you know that those piano plunking hand shots in La La Land are really Ryan Gosling’s? He learned how to play all those songs himself in a few short months. Crazy!
Sweet dessert tapas (just hold the samba or Seb might hurt someone) were served on this fabulous 3-step server with porcelain trays that I found at Bed Bath & Beyond.
Mini glass dessert dishes from the desserts & tasting set fit perfectly, and were delicious served with the adorable mini spoons that came with the set.
The top tier held chocolate pudding topped with Oreo cookie crumbs. Fresh strawberries and blackberries with whip cream filled the second tier.
Bright yellow banana puddings (the color reminds me of Mia’s yellow dress) were topped with a red raspberry and placed on the bottom tier.
TIP: Make all the desserts ahead of time, throw in the fridge, then pull out to serve as the party is about to start.
Store-bought cupcakes were dressed up for the party with wood rock candy sticks with a gold top and the Seb’s logo that Mia designed (drawn by yours truly). I created the printables to share with you, so feel free to download and use (for personal use only).

Moody blue Seb’s cupcakes were served on two three-tiered serving trays I made from old 40’s and 50’s records I scored from the thrift store.
The band of color in the middle of all six records even matched the dark blue frosting. DIY coming soon!
Small square plates were the perfect size for holding slices of French bread (like I’m sure Mia enjoyed in Paris) and cheese. Sliced bread and olive oil are a perfect fit in the elegant white bread and oil server.
Smoked gouda, havarti, and parmesan cheese were all served on the California cheese board, which is a necessity for those looking to say so long to Boulder City to pursue acting career in Hollywood.
An old film reel (perhaps A Rebel Without A Cause or Casablanca?) would make Mia happy, while some black and white dancing shoes suit both main characters.
Since Sebastian owns a piano as well as multiple keyboards, I knew just one keyboard on our La La Land party table wouldn’t do. A chocolate keyboard was just what we needed!
This chocolate piano makes such a statement and was SO easy to make! Just pick up some White Chocolate Kit Kat bars and line them all up like a piano keyboard on a white oval tray. Next add some miniature chocolate Kit Kat bars to the tops for the black keys. Now you have an almost instant edible piano keyboard that tastes even better than it looks!
Above the chocolate piano are an assortment of pastries stacked on a lovely white cake stand I found at Bed Bath & Beyond. These pastries are NOT gluten-free, so be aware that no refunds will be allowed on them. 😉
Lovely white wine glasses filled with bubbly sparkling apple cider look elegant, just like something you might see at one of those fancy L.A. schmooz-fest parties that Mia dreaded. Round marble trivets add an elegant look and keep the tablecloth clean.
I hope I’ve inspired you to create your own party for the big awards show, bonus points if it’s La La Land themed! I’ll be celebrating all of this amazing movie’s wins on Sunday. Be sure to head over to Bed Bath & Beyond to stock up on everything you need to entertain this weekend.
We wouldn’t want to waste a lovely night now, would we?
