I’m thrilled to be sharing how to make edible flower lollipops with you today. I’ve been making lollipops and suckers for years after learning as a child from my grandmother, and today I’m showing you how to make edible flower lollipops from real flowers!
Although it may seem a bit scary to make homemade lollipops, it really isn’t hard if you’re careful and follow the directions I’m going to give you. I’ll help you be successful and give you all the help you need to make some gorgeous homemade edible flower lollipops!
A big thanks to Baker’s Party Shop and Floating Petals Confetti who sent me some of the supplies I used to make these sweet treats. If you plan on trying to make edible flower lollipops, I highly recommend these shops!
How to Make Edible Flower Lollipops
Edible Flower Lollipops Supplies:
- Round lollipop molds
- Lollipop sticks
- Lollipop bags
- Candy thermometer
- Pourable glass container with handle (optional but very helpful)
Edible Flower Lollipops Ingredients:
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup corn syrup
- 1 dram (small bottle) LorAnn’s Oil Flavoring
- Food coloring
- Edible flowers
Making the Edible Flower Lollipops
Step 1. Very lightly spray your lollipop molds with cooking spray.
Step 2. Combine sugar, water, and corn syrup over medium heat. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Cook until mixture reaches the hard crack stage, which is 300 degrees.
Step 3. Remove the mixture from the heat, then quickly stir in the flavoring and food coloring.
Be sure to turn your head when you add the flavoring. Sometimes there will be a little puff of smoke that comes up and the scent is very strong (especially when using the cinnamon scent). Stir until the coloring and flavoring are completely mixed.
TIP: It’s very important to work quickly (but carefully!) from here on out since the candy will start cooling, and you want to use as much of it as possible before it starts to cool and harden!
Step 4. At this point I quickly pour my candy mixture into a pourable glass container with a handle so it’s easy to pour quickly and accurately. Pour some candy mixture into a sucker mold, then carefully drop a few edible flowers over the top.
You can use a toothpick to push them down into the middle of the candy mixture, but it’s even better if one person pours, then the other person pushes the flowers to the middle of the lollipops with a toothpick, so that you can work quicker before the candy starts to cool and harden.
I added gold sprinkles to the tops of some of the suckers too instead of flowers, just for fun. Feel free to experiment with colors, flavors, and different varieties of flowers to customize these lollipopsto just how you want them!
Place a sucker stick into the mixture and turn slightly to coat it. Repeat for all of the molds.
If the mixture starts to cool and gets too hard there is no way to warm it back up and reuse it, which is why it’s important to work quickly but carefully.
Now let the suckers sit on the countertop until they are hard. Gently twist the mold just a little bit to release the suckers.
Place each edible flower lollipop in a sucker bag, then tie with ribbon or string.
