This past weekend we celebrated my daughter’s birthday with a movie party, and I wanted to share the party details with you! My daughter is kind of obsessed with Divergent (and all the other books in the series), so she wanted to watch the movie outdoors on a big screen with her friends. We set up my parents’ projector, big outdoor screen, and some chairs and blankets for the movie.
You just can’t watch a movie without treats, right?! Before we got all settled in for the show, the kids filled up on treats at the elegant treat table I set up. I was going for the classic glamorous Hollywood/movie look, so I used gold, red, and black and white to decorate with. The glitzy gold sequin tablecloth was a showstopper, as well as the red velvet curtains I used to mimic the movie theater curtains of old.
The showstopper treat at the table was most definitely the Garrett Popcorn! They were sweet enough to send a HUGE 6.5-gallon tin of gourmet popcorn for my daughter’s birthday, and it tasted absolutely amazing!
We ordered three flavors that all came in our large tin- CheeseCorn, CaramelCrisp®, and Almond CaramelCrisp®.
The CheeseCorn flavor was my daughter’s favorite (which tasted sooo good, probably because of the freshly-melted, sharp cheddar cheese that’s stirred into every batch), the CaramelCrisp® was my son’s favorite, and the Almond CaramelCrisp® was my favorite. We all just couldn’t get enough of the delicious popcorn!!
Since our tin of Garrett Popcorn was very large, I used it as an awesome centerpiece for the table. I love the elegant gold and silver stripes on the packaging, and it fit in perfectly with the rest of the party decor.
To make it easier for guests to scoop their popcorn, I removed and refilled the popcorn from the big tin into three glass apothecary jars. I placed a stack of red and white striped popcorn boxes next to the popcorn, as well as a scoop for each flavor.
I found some adorable tuxedo boxes a while back at Dollar Tree that I knew would make the perfect party favors. You really can’t beat 10/$1!
I used my Sizzix Big Shot to cut some black cardstock film strips and tape them around some of the glass serving jars. I love how quick and easy this was and how it added more to the movie theme.
More apothecary jars were filled with all sorts of tasty treats, including gummy bears, Oreo cookies, popcorn bucket Rice Krispie treats (that my daughter made herself), Milk Duds, cotton candy, and Mike & Ikes, as well as the three flavors of Garrett Popcorn. I gave the girls some white treat bags to put their candy in for the movie.
My daughter made some cute Rice Krispie treat boxes of “popcorn.” The popcorn on the top is actually marshmallows that have been cut and twisted slightly to look like popcorn. I love that my daughter came up with these on her own and made them with her sister. Proud mom moment right there!
It’s a bit dark in this picture (for obvious reasons), but here’s a shot of the movie on the big screen outside. Gotta’ love Divergent!
Midway through the movie we had an intermission for cake, singing, and presents. My daughter wanted ice cream cake, so I made two big ice cream cakes with brownies, dulce de leche, ice cream, and a layer of Heath bars on top. The cake was a total hit, and the girls all wanted the tasty recipe!
I love everything about this party, but most of all I loved the fact that we were celebrating one more year of this girl and celebrating her and all of the amazing things she does. I’m so proud of her, and so glad that I was able to show her a bit of my love by putting together this party for her.
If you are throwing a party soon or have a special occasion coming up, you have GOT to order some Garrett Popcorn! There are a lot of flavors to choose from, and they have been making gourmet popcorn since 1949, and have it perfected! They even made Oprah’s Favorite Things list! You can order online and each batch is made fresh. You will LOVE it!
