With the start of season 6 of Downton Abbey this past Sunday, I’ve got all things English and tea on my mind. I’m SO excited about the new season, and yet so sad that it will all be over soon! Sniff sniff.
You probably already know from my first Downton Abbey tea party and my second Downton Abbey tea party that I love the show and a formal tea party, and when you combine the two pure magic happens. It’s such a great way to relax with family or friends and slow down and relax a bit while sipping hot herbal tea.
Today I’m sharing with you a sweet paper teacup that would make an adorable tea party favor when a small treat is put inside. It looks like it took forever to create this teacup, doesn’t it, with lots of fussy cutting and measuring? Nope.
This cute little cup was made in under 10 minutes (and that’s with me taking photos along the way), and with no measuring or fancy cutting skills. I used my Sizzix Big Shot that I use all the time for parties, crafts, kids’ accessories, table settings… you name it, and my Big Shot and Sizzix dies can do it!
I just used one die by one of my favorite Sizzix designers, Brenda Walton. Her dies are all so lovely and feminine, and this one is no exception. To make the cup, I made a Sizzix sandwich with a cutting pad on the bottom, the Sizzix Bigz 3-D Tea Cup die face up, some pretty floral paper face down and another sheet of pink paper, then a cutting pad on top.
I rolled the stack through my Big Shot and it made all the pieces I needed for my teacup (not all the pieces are pictured above).
I simply followed the directions inside the packaging and glued the tab on the cup and the bottom piece of the cup with my glue gun.
Next I glued the small circle that the die cut onto the bottom of the cup.
Then I glued the cup piece into the bottom piece.
To create the paper teabag tag, I folded and glued the die cut piece over a small piece of string that I placed on the inside. I cut a flower out of the same floral paper that I used on my cup, then glued it on. To add a little dimension and sparkle (you can never have too much sparkle, right?), I added a little gold Ice Stickles glitter paint to the middle. I also added some to the centers of some of the flowers on the cup.
I added a little hot glue to the end of the string and put it inside the bottom of the cup.
To create the handle, I used the die cut strip of paper that the die made, then wrapped half of it around my pen and held it in place for a minute. Then I did the same for the other side of the paper as well, but in the opposite direction.
I glued the handle on, and my cute cup was done!
It’s adorable as is for a tea party decoration, and would make a cute party favor too with treats inside!
So do you love Downton Abbey as much as I do? What are you hoping will happen before the show is over? I’d love to see Mrs. Patmore have her shot at love. She’s definitely one of my favorites.
Happy crafting!
