I’ve got a fun PVC pipe towel holder DIY that I’m really excited to share with you today that will be especially useful for those of you with pools!
I grew up spending my summers swimming in our pool every single day. At the end of each day we would throw all our towels in the garage next to the washing machine in a big heap. I remember there being so many wet, soppy towels, and if they weren’t washed right away they would get stinky and smelly.
Since we swam daily, the towels would have been much better off drying outside, so I decided to create a PVC pipe towel holder to put out by the pool so that the towels can air dry outside in the sun for a day or two before having to get washed.
This PVC pipe towel holder also prevents the towels from getting stinky because they are hanging out in the sun with plenty of space between them for the air to flow through.
It was a VERY hot day when I made this PVC pipe towel holder, so I made sure to put on some sunscreen. I had just bought the new NEW Banana Boat® SunComfort® Lotion Sunscreen and LOVE that it’s got an SPF of 50 and helps relieve dryness at the same time!
PVC Pipe Towel Holder DIY
Supplies:
- 4- 1 1/4″ 10′ long PVC pipes
- 12- 1 1/4″ PVC tees
- 8- 1 1/4″ 90 degree PVC elbows
- Hacksaw or PVC cutter
Directions:
Step 1. Use a hacksaw or PVC cutter to cut one of the 10′ long PVC pipes in half so that you have two 5′ pieces. These will be the base of the PVC towel holder.
I chose to use PVC pipe that has a diameter of 1 1/4″ because it’s thicker than the other sizes. I wanted to make sure my PVC towel holder was strong enough to hold our heavy wet towels and that it wouldn’t bow!
Step 2. Time for more cutting! Cut 10 pieces of PVC pipe that are 30″ long, 6 pieces that are 17 1/2″, and 8 pieces that are 7 1/2″.
Step 3. Now it’s time to put it all together. Place a PVC tee on both ends of the 5′ long pieces so that the top of the T runs along the same way as the pieces. Lay the two pieces parallel to each other, then place a 30″ piece on each end to connect the two pieces together with the tees. Now you have a big rectangular box.
Place a 7 1/2″ piece of PVC on the ends of your rectangle, then add a 90 degree elbow to the end of each one so that the elbow faces upwards. Now the whole PVC towel holder base is complete.
Step 4. Next comes the sides of the structure. Place 4 of the 30″ pieces into the ends of the elbows on each end so they are standing straight up. Place an elbow on each end so that the elbow is pointing towards the inside of the structure.
Step 5. Now we need to create the top. Place a 7 1/2″ piece of PVC pipe into the ends of the 4 90 degree elbows, then place a tee on each end so that the top of the tee is going the same directions as the 7 1/2″ pieces, towards the center of the structure.
Use a 30″ piece on both ends to connect the two sides together by placing the ends in the two tees (one on each end).
Step 6. Add a 17 1/2″ piece to each of the 4 ends, then place a tee on the ends of each so that the tops of the tees are running the same direction as the PVC pipe. Use a 30″ piece to connect both sides. Now just add the last two 17 1/2″ PVC pipes into the ends to connect the whole PVC towel holder together.
And you’re done! I love how my PVC pipe towel holder turned out! If I were to do it again, I would make a little less space between the towels. I just wanted to make sure there was enough room between for them to dry.
Like all DIY projects, this is how I chose to make ours, but you can also take this idea and use it to make your own towel holder to fit your specific space.
Now comes the fun part! You have to get wet to try out your new PVC pipe towel holder, right?
Going swimming is the perfect way to keep cool this summer, but with the light skin that runs in our family, it can be a little scary to be out in the blistering hot summer sun!
Every summer I stock up on Banana Boat sunscreen spray because I know I can trust the brand to protect my family’s fair skin. I bought the NEW Banana Boat® SunComfort® Lotion Sunscreen at Target, available in 30 or 50 SPF. The new sunscreen is pretty awesome because it’s designed to allow you to have the most comfortable experience in the sun AND the sand, perfect for those long sunny days at the beach this summer!
The unique formula of Banana Boat SunComfort allows sand to brush off easily, all while moisturizing and protecting your skin. Cool, right? It provides UVA and UVB protection, and is water-resistant for up to 80 minutes so you can protect your family this summer while splashing and playing in the summer sun.
Here’s to an amazing summer!
