I have the COOLEST Valentine’s gift idea to share with you today!! This one is for your spouse. I love fortune cookies, and with Valentine’s Day only a few days away, I was contemplating what to get for my husband. So I came up with this! I’ll still buy him something else to go with this idea I’m about to share, but I think this idea is fun, easy, original, and definitely unexpected!! ๐ And a guy would definitely love it!
Are you ready?
Okay, not magically, but I’ll show youhow to open up a pre-made fortune cookie, take out the old fortune, add your own steamy fortune to it, and close it up so it looks exactly like it did before.
Your unsuspecting spouse will wonder why in the world you gave him fortune cookies for Valentine’s Day, until he opens a cookie and reads the fortune. And then you’ll score some major points!
And I included a free printable if you don’t want to come up with your own! This present really couldn’t be easier. It only takes a few minutes, but is so fun!
So here we go!
- Fortune Cookies (I bought a box of 12 at the Dollar Store)
- Free Printable
- Steamer Basket (used to steam vegetables)
- Flat Iron (optional)

Thanks Aarean, it’s pretty fun and I felt so sneaky doing it, haha! The cookie and package really look like they’ve never been opened, which I think is the best part!

Genius! Won’t your guests be surprised!

Oops! Just read the fortunes. I hope there isn’t more than one guest. But this could be adapted to any kind of party or occasion with different fortunes.
Laura @ Make Life Lovely says
Haha, definitely just one guest for these fortunes ๐ Yes, these are great to adapt for any party- birthday party, Chinese New Year, etc…

Oh, I just love this post…my husband proposed to me {12 years ago} by doing something like this. He pulled out the original fortune and replaced it with one that said “Will you marry me” so this has a special place in my heart! I’m pinning your printables so I can use them for him sometime…maybe for our anniversary! I’d be thrilled if you’d share this idea at my party this weekend: https://www.oneartsymama.com/2013/02/shine-on-fridays-67-and-giveaway.html

I made these tonight for an anniversary present (first anniversary = paper = fortunes! Perfect!). I love them! One thing I’d caution… make sure the water doesn’t boil too high and actually touch the cookies. It makes them get slimy and they don’t go back to normal. ๐ But, thankfully, I bought some extras! Popping them in the oven at 350 for about 5 minutes helped… But, thanks for this easy and fun project!
