Don’t you just love the combination of rosemary and mint?
My favorite body wash is a rosemary and mint wash by C.O. Bigelow, and I feel so fresh and clean when I use it!
My good friend (check out her fun blog here) is moving to another city, so I wanted to give her a little gift during this stressful time of packing and moving.
I’ve been wanting to make a rosemary mint scrub for a while.
This gave me the perfect opportunity to make some for her and for me!
I have bushes of fresh rosemary, and plenty of supplies from past scrubs I have made, so this scrub was a breeze to make.

Rosemary Mint Scrub
This sugar and salt scrub leaves your hands and body feeling so smooth and clean.
Bonus- it smells absolutely amazing!
Sugar Scrub Ingredients
- 1 cup Sugar
- 1 cup Epsom salts
- Fresh rosemary, chopped (I used a lot, but use as much as you like)
- 3/4 cup Carrier oil (sunflower oil, grape seed oil, sweet almond oil, or light olive oil)
- Rosemary essential oil
- Peppermint or spearmint oil (I used a combo of both)
Mix the Scrub Ingredients
Mix all ingredients together in a bowl, mixing thoroughly.
Filling the Jar
Spoon the rosemary mint scrub into a jar with a lid.
I bought a bunch of these jars when I spotted them last year at Dollar Tree.
They are the perfect container for homemade scrubs!
How to Use the Homemade Scrub
This homemade scrub works great at removing dead skin from dry hands.
You can also use it as a whole body scrub in the bathtub.
How to Adapt the Rosemary Mint Scrub Recipe
Feel free to play with the ingredients, then adapt them to your preference.
If you don’t like too much scent, then use less essential oil.
I used around 20 drops of rosemary, 20 peppermint, and 20 spearmint.
I like my scrub to be thick and coarse and less oily.
If you like more liquid, then add more oil.
I like the combination of sugar and Epsom salts because you get a mixture of fine (sugar) and coarse (Epsom salts).
You can also use just one of these if you like, or just change the proportions.
Go try some rosemary mint sugar and salt scrub!
It’s very inexpensive to make, and is a wonderful gift for anyone you love!

What would you think of including some fresh mint also? Maybe you have some experience with how it holds up in the scrub.

Do you have any experience with adding fresh mint? Do you think this would be okay? Rosemary is kind of woody so it keeps better. I’m afraid mint may tend to get slimy or too brown. Thank you for sharing.

I’ve never added fresh mint, but I agree with you that it would probably not keep as well as the rosemary, which is much hardier. You can always try it with a tiny batch and see what happens! If you do, be sure to come back and let me know. Now I’m curious 😉

How long does this scrub last with the fresh rosemary? Can you use dried rosemary as well?
Laura @ Make Life Lovely says
I used mine for quite a while- its been a year now, and I can’t remember when I finally threw out the rest. The rosemary holds up surprisingly well in this scrub, but you could definitely use dried rosemary as well. Hope that helps!

If you use peppermint extract instead of oil, will it harm your skin?
