It’s no wonder that one of San Diego’s top attractions is SeaWorld San Diego. It’s a place filled with wonder, learning, and a whole lot of fun!
Today I’m sharing some of the best things to do at SeaWorld San Diego with kids to help you make the most of your trip.
If you’re traveling with kids, you’ll find that SeaWorld San Diego is very kid-friendly.
There are many activities, play areas, and exhibits that cater to younger children, so keep reading for some of my favorite things to do at SeaWorld San Diego with kids!
Best Things to do at SeaWorld San Diego with Kids
Explorer’s Reef
Just inside the park entrance is Explorer’s Reef, an area made up of pools where kids and adults alike can touch the animals inside the water.
Explorer’s Reef is home to multiple ocean animals, but our favorites are the cleaner fish that tickle your fingers as they clean the dead skin off of them!
Ocean Explorer
The Ocean Explorer area is home to four rides and real ocean animals you can observe up close.
My kids and I couldn’t get enough of the large jellyfish swing ride, the Tentacle Twirl, that swings you up and out on single and double swings.
The Aqua Scout, Octarock, and Sea Dragon Drop are the other rides in the Ocean Explorer area that are geared towards younger park-goers. The rides are all ocean-themed and ride heights vary for each different ride.
Aquariums
The three aquariums at SeaWorld San Diego are home to a large variety of interesting animals that will excite younger children.
Our favorite aquarium was Aquaria: World of Fishes, because of the huge piranha tank. My little guy was mesmerized!
We later learned that this was one of the largest schools of piranhas on exhibit.
Interactive Animal Exhibits
Seeing the amazing ocean animals so close is definitely the biggest reason to visit SeaWorld San Diego.
Where else will you get to watch beluga whales swim underwater inches from your face, reach out to touch a dolphin as it swims by, stroll underneath multiple sharks swimming above your head, or witness penguins playing and swimming together?
Wild Arctic, the Dolphin Encounter, the Shark Encounter, and the Penguin Encounter are all opportunities for you and your kids to witness these beautiful animals first-hand, and are definitely areas that you don’t want to miss!
Last year my husband and I had the privilege of getting in the water with the beluga whales and feeding them and interacting with them in their exhibit.
It was absolutely amazing and experience that I will never forget!
You can read more about our beluga whale interaction and see the photos too!
In the Wild Arctic area there is a really cool (literally) ice wall that is made up of real ice and is very cold to touch.
My kids (and let’s be honest, my husband too!) all love rubbing their hands on the ice and placing them in handprints that are melted into the ice.
Sesame Street Bay of Play
Join your favorite characters from Sesame Street in this kid-friendly area of the park.
Here you and your kids can ride Elmo’s Flying Fish, whirl and twirl on Abby’s Sea Star Spin, and rock and roll on Oscar’s Rockin’ Eel ride!
Aquaria Touch Pool
Kids and adults can get an up close and personal look at some of the animals in the ocean at the Aquaria Touch Pool.
You are allowed to touch and pick up anything in the pool, as long as it stays under the water.
Sea urchins, fish, anemones, sea stars, wavy top snails, and more are all there for kids to experience.
Shows
Our kids love the fun shows at SeaWorld San Diego!
There is the new Orca Encounter, where you can learn more about the Orcas and their behavior in the wild.
Just be sure not to sit in the first 10 rows if you don’t want to get wet!
The dolphin show is really entertaining, as is the Pets Rule and Sea Lions Live show.
My kids’ favorite is probably the sea lions show because there are lots of jokes and the animals and actors are very funny throughout the show.

Bayside Skyride
We love to finish our day off at SeaWorld San Diego with a relaxing bay side skyride over the water.
Soar high above the park and bay and take in the beautiful views on this all-ages ride.
Even our three-month-old baby girl could go on this one, which is definitely a plus!
As you can see, SeaWorld San Diego is a very kid-friendly park, giving parents and children many opportunities to see, touch, interact with, and learn more about these incredible ocean animals.
I hope you learned a few things that you can do at SeaWorld San Diego with kids!
