Hello again! Hope you all had a wonderful and restful Christmas filled with family, friends, and love. I took much more time off than I had intended due to the whole family getting very sick, especially me. Not fun, but we’re just about back to normal over here.
In early December I had the privilege of putting together a program for the 12-18 year-old girls at my church, called Young Women in Excellence. It’s a wonderful night where we showcase the girls and all of the amazing talents they have and things they have done that year. I decided to go with a sewing/pattern theme, which was a lot of fun to work with!
I thought I would share a few of my ideas with you- these same decorations and ideas could be used for a little girl’s sewing birthday party, a quilt sewing party, a Project Runway viewing party, a Lalaloopsy party, or whatever else!
Keep in mind that this took place in a church building at night with fluorescent lighting, so please don’t judge the photos too harshly… 😉
I covered up the front white boards with sheets of old sewing patterns that I found at a thrift store. I love that it was a cheap way to fill the space, and it went well with the theme. Vintage sewing pattern packages were lined up along the bottom of the white board for more decoration.
For the front table, I borrowed an antique Singer sewing machine that had belonged to a friend’s mother. The invitations, programs, and poster for the front were all a download I purchased from here. It was SO nice to have this, and made our work a TON easier! These also set the tone and colors for the whole night.
Of course I used my favorite apothecary jars, and filled them up with balls of yarn, vintage wood spools of thread, and some newer spools of thread I already had. On the top of each glass jar, I added a little ribbon that I made from cutting and gluing pieces of measuring tape, and then embellished with a large button.
I found a pink metal dressform jewelery holder that matched the theme and colors, so embellished it with a piece of the measuring tape, some black paper with white polka dots, and a few buttons. I gave some nice added height to the table, too.
I found some amazingly cute pink pin cushions that added some color to the table, as well as a hot pink measuring tape, large spools of thread, more yarn and a large button that matched the large button garland I made for the front of the room. (Tutorial for that coming soon!)
I ordered some Sizzix dies for my Big Shot that worked PERFECTLY with the party and the table. I used my Sizzix thread card die to make spools of thread from balsa wood, and then wrapped pieces of card stock in matching colors to the middle.
We had round tables set up for each girl to display some things that represent them, and show what their talents are and what they’ve been working on this year. I used my Tim Holtz dress form die to die cut cute dress forms in different colors and patterns, then let the girls pick one and write their name on it to show which table was theirs. So easy, and I love the way they turned out!
I was so impressed with all of the amazing things the girls are involved in, and with each of their tables. One of the girls was in charge of the refreshments, wich another leader, and they did a fabulous job. Love the button cookies that she made from scratch!
I hope this gave you a few ideas for your events, whether it’s for church, a party, or for whatever!
Happy new year! I can’t wait to make 2015 my best year yet!
