Thanks to Dawn from Revel and Glitter for sharing her Earth Day trail mix bar while I’m on maternity leave enjoying my sweet baby girl. I’ll be back soon with more party ideas, DIY’s, crafts, recipes, and more!
Hello Make Life Lovely readers, my name is Dawn of Revel and Glitter, an entertaining and lifestyle blog. I’m honored to be here while Laura takes some much-needed time to bond with their newest member of their clan.
I may have been raised a city girl but living in the Pacific Northwest has caused me to appreciate the great outdoors! If you are looking for a great way to celebrate Earth Day, ‘take it outside’ as my mom would say. Gather a few friends at the park or hit a walking trail…but first, get everyone energized with a DIY trail mix bar.
I know, when you think trail mix, you think of hiking through the woods on a crisp, fall day! This is always a fun idea all year round, whether on its own as a day-in-the-park birthday party table or kicking off a day on the trail. It is bound to be a crowd-pleaser!
With a trip to your local grocer’s bulk bin section, your bar is only limited to what you can find! I love buying in bulk because it not only cuts down on packaging, but I get exactly how much I need.
I suggest having a variety from five different groups: sweet, crunchy, fruit/berries, nuts/seeds and something unique. Here are a few ideas to get you started…

- pretzels
- popcorn
- mini teddy or bunny graham crackers
- dry cereal
- tortilla chips
- goldfish crackers

There are so many container options to use from mason and cookie jars, metal buckets, bowls, to baskets lined with food-safe paper, and even large paper bags. All of these fall right in line with our theme of using recyclable or reusable goods.
Don’t forget your scoops and bags for serving.
Like my boxwood backdrop? It’s an easy DIY and stores and transports easily. I love reusable party ware and this backdrop helps make decorating simple yet elegant.
Inspire some trail mix ideas with a few simple recipes. I used IKEA photo frames and inserted scrapbook paper as a background. I used a chalk pen to write on the plastic!
The Don’t Wake The Bears mix is a creation my youngest came up with…anything with lots of bear snacks is his favorite.
I hope you have been inspired to take it outside for Earth Day or anytime of the year! Get everyone off their devices and enjoy the world around you…
