Every time I walk into the grocery store these days I can’t resist buying the juicy red ripe strawberries that are in season. With summer on its’ way, I thought I’d make some strawberry jewelry out of clay for my girls to wear. I couldn’t decide between a strawberry necklace, strawberry earrings, or strawberry rings, so of course I made them all!
This DIY strawberry jewelry is really quite simple and quick to make! In fact, you can make a piece of this strawberry jewelry in less than 15 minutes (not including baking and drying time)!
My kids loved helping me with this craft, too. My five year old was a pro at pushing the red and green clay into the strawberry molds. Get your kids on board with you for this project, especially during the summer when you hear the dreaded “I’m bored, mom!”
Supplies:
- Oven bake clay in red and green (I used Sculpey III
) - Strawberry mold (mine came from Wholeport)
- Jewelry findings- ring blanks, headpins, jump rings, pliers, necklace chain, and/or earring posts
- Krazy Glue
- Clear glaze (I used Krylon Triple Thick Clear Glaze)

First, preheat the oven to the temperature stated in the directions on your clay. Take off a small piece of the green clay, and roll it and smash it around in your fingers for a minute or two to condition it and get it nice and soft.
Press a tiny portion of the green clay into the top of the strawberry mold for the green strawberry top. Remove any excess clay that is in the strawberry portion of the mold.
Repeat this procedure with the red clay, and place a small amount of clay in the red strawberry portion of the mold. If you need to add more clay to fill in the strawberry mold, add more. Be sure to remove any excess clay so that the back of the strawberry is nice and smooth.
Now carefully remove the strawberry from the mold by turning the mold over and popping it out. Isn’t the finished strawberry SO cute? I love all of the tiny seed details on the strawberries!
Continue to make as many strawberries as you need to make your strawberry jewelry. If making a necklace, poke a headpin into the back of the strawberry so that the circle on the end is barely sticking out from the top of the strawberry. If your headpin is too long like mine were, just cut them with scissors!
Bake the clay strawberries in the oven according to the manufacturer’s directions. Once baked, let them cool completely. Spray a coat or two of Krylon’s Triple Thick Crystal Clear Glaze onto the clay strawberries to give them a nice glossy finish, and let the glaze dry completely. Follow the directions below for the strawberry jewelery that you would like to make!
To make the strawberry jewelry ring:
Add a dab of Krazy Glue to the top of the ring blank. Press the clay strawberry down onto the ring and hold for 30 seconds.
To make the strawberry jewelry earrings:
Add a dab of Krazy Glue to the top of the earring posts. Press the clay strawberries down onto the earring posts and hold for 30 seconds.
To make the strawberry jewelry necklace:
Open a jump ring with the pliers, and place the jump ring through the headpin on the clay strawberry. Place the jump ring through the necklace, and close using the pliers.
Isn’t the finished strawberry jewelry SO cute? I love the bright colors of the strawberries, I love all the tiny details, I love the shiny gloss finish… I love it all!
Oh, and so did my daughters, which was the most important part. 😉
