Learn how to make a gorgeous moon wreath for Halloween (or anytime) with this easy tutorial.
I love a good DIY that is simple, yet elegant and sophisticated at the same time.
This beautiful Halloween wreath is just that!
It would look so perfect with our TEN DIY witch potion bottles or our Halloween witch boots decoration.
Moon Wreath for Halloween
I fell in love with the prettiest gray floral moon wreath that I saw on Anthropologie’s website (it’s sold out on Anthropologie), and I just knew I had to make my own.
When a wreath costs $128, then I will almost always make it myself…. 😉
My inspiration wreath is made from iron, but mine is made from a metal wreath form and flowers I already owned.
This DIY is really easy and definitely packs an elegant, eerie, yet beautiful punch, like our hand Halloween tray inspired by Grandin Road.

Crescent Moon Wreath Supplies
Here’s a list of the supplies you’ll need to make this pretty Halloween decoration-
Moon wreath form
I lucked out and found my metal moon wreath form at Michaels.
If your Michaels doesn’t have them, I found these crescent moon grapevine wreath bases on Amazon that will work great and save you an extra step at the end! The one I linked to is a 3-pack, but it’s 14″, unlike the single versions that are only 11.”
Fake flowers
Any fake flowers will work! They can be in any color- a variety of sizes and colors is perfect! Luckily I’ve collected LOTS of fake flowers through the years.
Check your stash first and give those old or outdated florals a new life- or head to Dollar Tree and grab some new cheap ones.
Zip ties
Zip ties are a must for this project. I used medium-sized black zip ties for this project.
Gray Spray Paint
You’ll need a matte gray spray paint. Make sure it’s matte or it will look too shiny. Any brand of paint will work!
Grapevine filler
I used some grapevine filler I already had on hand to decorate the tips of the moon wreath. This part is completely optional, but it gives the wreath a nice finished look.
Cut the stems
Use cutting pliers to cut off some floral stems from your fake flowers.
Make sure to use a variety of sizes, shapes, and types of flowers to make your moon wreath visually appealing.
You can also use berries and leaves for even more visual interest.
Arrange the flowers
Grab a few of your floral stems and arrangement them into a small bouquet.
We will be making a handful of small bouquets to create our moon wreath.
Once you like the way your mini floral bouquet looks, secure the flowers in place with a zip tie.
Add a second zip tie higher on the flowers to make sure everything is held in place nice and tight.
Repeat until your have enough flowers to fill the wreath as shown in the photo below.
You want the wreath pretty full with the two wreath form ends empty.
Add the flowers to the moon wreath form
Place one of your flower bundles on top of your wreath, then wrap a zip tie around the flowers and the metal wreath form.
Add a second zip tie to the bundle to make sure everything is secure.
Keep zip tying your flower bundles until your wreath looks like the one above.
When you’ve added all the flowers, then turn the moon wreath over and add more zip ties to secure everything.
Create the grapevine wreath tips
Now it’s time to decorate the tips of our wreath.
You can leave the tips empty and as is, but I grabbed a small handful of grapevine wreath filler for each end.
I used two black zip ties to secure the grapevine filler to each tip of the moon.
One zip tie was wrapped around underneath the flowers, and one zip tie was wrapped around the tips at both ends.
Paint the wreath
Now for the fun part- painting the wreath!
In my opinion, this is where the magic really happens!
I love watching the spray paint transform this brightly colored hodge podge of flowers into a neutral, sophisticated crescent moon wreath.
Be sure to spray paint outside.
Paint multiple light coats of paint rather than one or two heavy coats.
This will help you avoid dripping and an uneven job and will make your wreath look much nicer!
I painted four light coats of my matte gray spray paint, which was the entire can of my small can of spray paint (mine wasn’t full size).
Let the paint dry, then admire your handy work!
Isn’t this pretty moon wreath so stunning?!
This Halloween wreath is just so elegant and classy, and I love it so much.
Pair it with our sweet light up ghosts from Dollar Tree candle holders and our witch cauldron DIY for maximum impact!
It’s perfect for Halloween without screaming Halloween with bones or skulls or anything gross or gory.
Enjoy!
