As a child of the 80’s, watching the Ghostbusters movies are a must do on our Halloween list every year. I’ve thought about doing a Ghostbusters party for a few years now, and this year was the year! I’m sharing lots of cool Ghostbusters party ideas with you, so grab your proton pack and get ready to catch some ghosts!
From everything in green, black, and white to a dripping slime tablecloth to ectoplasm party favors, Ghostbusters fans of all ages will love this fun Ghostbusters party.
This is a great Halloween party theme, but it would also be perfect for a Ghostbusters birthday party for the ultimate Ghostbusters fan.
Today I’ll show you how I put this party together and teach you how to make the coolest ectoplasm!
Ghostbusters Party Decorations
To decorate the party table, I started with some plain black fabric and used that as a tablecloth.
I also bought a bright green fabric tablecloth, and drew dripping slime onto one of the long edges. I used scissors to cut out the drips, then placed it over the black for instant dripping slime tablecloth!
This is my favorite of the Ghostbusters party ideas I came up with.
I knew that I wanted to include the iconic Ghostbusters logo into our Ghostbusters decorations, so I had a poster made with the logo.
I mounted it on black foam board and placed it in the middle of the table. Bright green, black, and white balloon bunches to match the party were placed on each side of the sign for easy Ghostbusters party decorations.
It just wouldn’t be a Ghostbusters party without a proton pack, so I bought one for all the Ghostbusters. You know, just in case we had any unwanted ghostly guests we needed to get rid of.
Two of our favorite ghosts were there too, the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man and Rowan, keeping guard over the sweet treats. Both ghosts light up if you push on their red ties, so you know that the kids just couldn’t resist touching!
Ghostbusters Party Food
For a sweet treat, I filled small plastic containers with lids with lime Jell-O, then added the Ghostbusters logo that I printed onto the tops of each container. White cake stands held all of the treats.
Bright green frosted chocolate cupcakes that I ordered from Walmart, where I did the shopping for this party, were given a ghostly makeover to create some awesome Ghostbusters cupcakes.
I used my Sizzix Big Shot to cut ghosts in a few different sizes out of white card stock. Then I stuck them into the frosting so they look like they were flying out. You could also use a Cricut machine to make these ghost Ghostbuster cupcakes.
I love how simple these Ghostbusters cupcakes were to make and how cute they look on the party table!
Of course we drank bright green apple juice in green cups from a big drink dispenser with the Ghostbusters logo on it. Would you expect anything else?
Three glass jars were filled with spooky sweets that matched the party colors- black and white gumballs, green apple jelly beans, and white chocolate balls.
Ghostbusters Ectoplasm Party Favors
Gooey green ectoplasm is present in every Ghostbusters movie, so I knew I had to make some and give it to party guests. If you’ve never made slime before, it’s very easy and actually quite fun to make, especially when its bright green!
Ecoplasm Slime Recipe
Supplies:
- Water
- 1 Tbsp. borax
- 1 8 oz. container white glue
- Green food coloring
Step 1. Add 1 Tbsp. borax to 1 cup of water. Stir until thoroughly combined, then set aside.
Step 2. Pour all the glue from a white glue bottle into a cup or bowl. Fill the empty glue container with water, then add to the glue.
Add the green food coloring (I used 14 drops of a neon green color), then stir until combined.
Step 3. Add 1 Tbsp. of the borax and water mixture to the glue mixture, then stir. Keep stirring until the mixture starts getting thick and turning into slime.
You can add a small amount more of the borax mixture if there’s still liquid left, then keep stirring.
I found it was easiest to just get in there and use my hands to mix it up, which is a little messy but a lot more fun.
I placed the finished slime in a plastic container with a lid, then added the Ghostbusters logo to the top of each container. They make the best favors for a Ghostbusters party!
I love that it’s made from things I already had at home. This was my kids’ favorite of all our Ghostbusters party ideas by far.
Thanks for letting me share our Ghostbusters party with you! I hope you saw some Ghostbusters party ideas that you’d like to try.
